Still Looking
Hello Folks...

I have the former generation 4720 Compact Utility Tractor with cab (2008 Model and S/N 570***).

The tractor has the factor installed 3rd SCV (separate lever next to the rockshaft lever). I added a Power Beyond kit last year (LVB25780).

I am now adding an electrohydraulic third SCV for my grapple with the integrated switch and joystick (LVB26033) so I don't have to shift from my joystick to close and open the grapple.

The challenge I am facing is the fact that the already installed Power Beyond kit is occupying one of the ports required for the lines between the electrohydraulic valve and the hydraulic system.

I've done a lot of researching and located the following thread which references different steel lines that are used to connect a 3rd EH as well as a 4th and 5th SCV at this post. However, I am not adding a 4th and 5th.

I have two questions:

  1. Are different lines available to allow the 3rd EH and the Power Beyond to co-exist?
  2. Secondly, there is some question as to whether the EH kit only supports the later 2011 and following tractors. The Deere parts catalog does not show a serial number break and I've not gotten far enough into the project yet to know whether or not I should expect an issue. Thoughts?
Hopefully, one of you with the deep expertise can steer me.

Thanks much for all the helpful information. I am learning a lot.

Re: Adding 3rd Electrohydraulic to "Older" 4x20 Cab tractor with Power Beyond

2011 is the break or 810000 s/n. One of the bigger differences is that on your tractor the 3rd scv always existed from the factory, even if you didn't have 3rd scv control. The 3rd valve was built into the std 2 function mid valve. All that was required was to run the linkage and lines for rear couplers. After 2011 the 3 body mid valve was dropped and replaced with a 2 body mid valve, third scv was then changed to an e/h operated instead of manual. I don't have a good answer for you on the plumbing of this set up, Deere does not claim they are compatible, good luck. Maybe a diverter off of the supply to the original 3rd function to allow you to switch between manual and eh?

Thanks much. I was afraid that might be the case.

After 2011 the 3 body mid valve was dropped and replaced with a 2 body mid valve

According to the installation instructions, the provided line and 90 degree fitting connects to the mid-valve at the orifice marked as "A" in the below photo of my tractor's mid-valve. That line routes properly to the P side of the EH manifold. This is aligned with the factory-provided 3rd SCV valve on my tractor which is in-line with the mechanical linkage. I don't know enough about how these valves are engineered so am I likely to see consistent pressure at that point on my mid-valve when my existing 3rd SCV lever is in neutral? If so, I have the pressure side solved?

I don't have a good answer for you on the plumbing of this set up, Deere does not claim they are compatible, good luck. Maybe a diverter off of the supply to the original 3rd function to allow you to switch between manual and eh?

The PB return connects to the sump return in the same place as the kit provided with the EH is requesting I use. I am therefore thinking about putting a TEE fitting in place at the location marked as "B" in the second picture of my PB set-up. I can then run a hose (or steel line) from the T orifice on the front of the EH manifold to the "left leg" of the TEE fitting. This solves the tank side of the problem.

If I go this route, is there a reliable source on the Internet for the short steel lines I will need with required flares and fittings to connect from the PB to the base of the TEE fitting and from the "right leg" of the TEE to make the short connection to the return filter? They are probably only going to be a few inches each. I haven't checked with my Deere dealer yet to see if they are an "off-the-shelf" type of thing. Perhaps I can order them custom-made from an on-line source. I can find the fittings easily from Surplus Center but it doesn't look like they sell steel lines.

I think this should all work as long as the electrical connections are not incompatible and I can work around all of that.

What do you all think?

MUSINGS:

Given how much Deere think of the EH manifold, I'm beginning to think I should have done something different. I'm still entertaining returning the Deere kit (still in the box) and doing a Plan B with a multi-circuit manifold sourced from the Internet but I like the integrated joystick switch and OEM wiring harness. Maybe I can buy the harness, joystick and joystick switch separately from Deere. I am still on the fence.

Thanks for all your help to this hydraulic noob.

Sounds good to me, but I am very far from being an expert on Hydraulic theory.

sounds like i am trying to do the same thing as you are have you had any luck figuring out the plumbing? my tractor is a 2010 4720 with cab

Re: Adding 3rd Electrohydraulic to "Older" 4x20 Cab tractor with Power Beyond

When I needed multiple sets of outlets on my 4520 I used one side of the 3rd outlet for the pressure line and a return line connected to the lower case. .Used an outboard two spool valve with proportional control to be able to feather the flow of hydraulic oil.
