Good afternoon all,

I just picked up a 14six loader for my 2240. It came without the valve. I think I have settled on a prince 3 spool valve with a joystick (2) and 1 for a grapple or angle blade. the Boom also has a float. the valve has a max of 2five gpm. I will get the close center plug for it also. the tractor is rated around 9gpm It sound like this might be a little over board, so I wondering what others might do for a valve before i make the purchase.

also I need to know how to tap into the hydraulic system. it has 1 remote but I would prefer to leave it for other applications. There are 3 lines coming from the pump. 1 appears to be for the steering and brakes(?), the second one looks like it goes to the remote although it looks like it is plumbed into a large cast iron block before it goes there. the 3rd i assume it is the feed to the pump. this is all on the right hand side of the tractor under the floor board. My thought is I can T into the line before it goes into the remote. most likely where it transition from a hard line to a hose. I'm not sure where return should go.

Any help/insight would be appreciated.

Dan, the 146 loader is a good match for the 2240. The pressure line is T'ed into the line feeding your remote. the factory setup used a "T" behind the cast block #6 and replace the steel line going to the remote with a hose #4. The return should be routed to the hydraulic filter cover. If your cover does not have a "port" to connect the hose, you should buy one. Returning the oil here assures that all the return oil from the loader gets sent directly back to the main pum so it does not starve for oil. Returning the oil directly to sump will cause the pump to cavitate and you will have jerky operation. The valve you mentioned should be fine as long as you install the closed center plug. Even the factory valve was rated for alot more flow. That is not a problem. An under rated valve would be a problem.

If you're careful you can reattach the original steel line that supplies the SCV to the lower fitting at pressure control valve. BTDT several times back when 2240's were new.

TX Jim is correct you can fit a Tee betwween the pressure control valve and the steel line for the rear valve. Did it when I put the 245 loader on my 2030.

jd110 is also correct, you want to return to the trans filter cover. You do not need as many fittings shown. The Tee with a cap is to allow other returns to the filter cover. My two rear SCVs have a hose from the end cover down to the trans filter cover, so I had a ported cover and only had to buy that Tee. I think I might have an extra ported cover(loader came with one too).

My 2030 has two rear SCV couplers, so I use one set when I use my grapple.

When I bought the 245 loader it came with the independent valve and joystick, cable operated.

Good luck on the install

jd110,

Thanks for the schematic, I was looking for that one to get me going. It appears that my filter cover does have the port, at least there is a large nut ~1 1/2" in size on the side of the filter. I will have to look at it again tonight to make sure it is the correct cover.

TX Jim and ZebraFive,

my 2240 already has the soft line exiting the pressure control valve to remote SCV. so I should have some play there.

Most likely i will get the fittings from Deere, only because I'm having a hard time getting my head around the different types.

I'm sure I will have some more questions.

Thanks. Dan...

Some of the later model SCV kits had a hose to replace steel line. Here's a list of the fittings & o-rings you should need to attach loader hyd's to tractor.
R39249 CONNECTOR,SPECIAL ADD 7.15 USD
F3171R PACKING, O-RING ADD 1.90 USD
R36075 CONNECTOR,SPECIAL ADD 10.99 USD
AW16707 UNION FITTING, UNION FITTING ADD 34.39 USD
R26448 PACKING, -O- RING ADD 1.22 USD
R26375 PACKING, -O- RING ADD 1.54 USD

Sounds like you lucked out on two counts. A hose to the SCV will make that connection easier and I'll bet that a ported filter cover is close to $200 now.
I was happy my 2030 had one.

Don't worry about the whole 10 gallons of trans/hydraulic fluid draining out when you pull the plug from your filter cover. You will ony get what oil it holds.

Wow! Ouch! Not sure if it somethnig a bung could be welded onto or not. At least he does not have to worry about it.

Any idea why my SCVs have a return to this cover? Only one I've seen that way. Could it be because it has a Hi-Lo trans?

JD came out with the option to return SCV oil to the filter to aid in operating such things as orbit motors similar to the ones used on augers and post hole diggers. SELECTIVE CONTROL VALVE OIL FILTER RETURN KIT
