Im looking to add some additional Hydrulic ports to the rear of my Kubota BX2200 for the option of using a wood splitter. How would one go about doing this? And is it something that i should pursue or is it more trouble then its worth? I know there are other options like running a pto pump but they are expensive and I was really looking to use what I already have. The other question I have is, what can I expect from a log splitter powered by a tractor this size? I was hopeing to use a 4 way wedge on small logs to help with the slow ram travel and maximize efficiency. Is this too much to ask from my little tractor? What are some of the things that I need to know before attempting such a projct?
Thanks
Mike

I have bx2660 and the hyd flow is just over 6 gpm and my rear coupler are only 1/4". So the splitter would be real sloooow. Might want to rethink and go with the pto or stand alone splitter.

The usable flow on the BX will be less then what is listed as there is a priority valve that routes some of the flow to the power steering circuit as there is only one pump on the BX tractors. My old Speeco has a 16 GPM pump you will have around a third that using the BX. Another concern I would have is the heat build up caused by splitting very much wood, no cooler on BX other then convection of the tranny case.

I say get a stand alone splitter and wear out a cheap engine at 3600 rpm and use the BX for moving blocks to be split.

Do yo have a FEL/loader now?

Do you have a hyd block on the right side of the tractor?

If you have either or those, you can run a hose and QD to the back for a log splitter.

6 GM would run the log splitter, but with the engine running at max.

You could order your log splitter with this valve from Prince, a LSR-3060, to increase the flow of fluid to the log splitter and run the tractor at a lower rpm, pumping about 3 or 4 GPM's.

Go with a stand alone and get one with the Honda GX series engine, why put the hours on it doing logs anywho.

Hyd outlets or remotes at the back are always good to have for whatever.

Auger, flail mower, log splitter, water pump, snow blower, etc.

Thanks for all the input guys.... I happened to stumble across another thread that someone has already done this with a bx....safe to say it worked but not very impresive. Like you guys said it was slow and he said that it heated up under alot of use. I think im just going to have to invest in a stand alone. Just one more motor I have to maintain and keep covered. The extra hydro ports would be nice but other than the wood splitter I wouldnt have any other need. Thanks again for the quick response!!

I purchased a Northern Tool "Northstar" 22 ton logsplitter with a Honda motor.
I have been very happy with the machine.
The next size up comes with a higher grade Honda motor.

Did you read #4 post above , and do you understand how that valve works.

It will allow you to run the tractor at lower rpm, and still have a good speed.
