I have about 140 hours on my B2710 and have found a dozen jobs that I think would have been easier with the FEL I didn't buy. How difficult is it to add one now? I am pretty naive about this kind of stuff. Can I order one and install it myself (not highly mechanically inclined)? or is this a job for a dealer? What kind of cost am I looking at? What options do I have...only Kubota FEL, bucket type, etc.?

First, welcome to the forum. You will learn alot here. I have.

Adding a FEL is easy. You have the choice of a Kubota or aftermarket manufaturer. Check with your dealer, mine offered a special discount for such accessories.

The dealer will add a kit that stays on the tractor. It includes the valve block and joy stick and the FEL frame. One option for the FEL I highly recommend is the grill guard. Stuff is always dropping out of your bucket and the guard works.

If you go with a Kubota FEL, most of us opted for what is called the light material bucket. Its bigger- about 60 inches for the 2710/2910. Do not be confused about the name light materials. I have hauled buckets full of gravel and boulders with mine with no problems. The other bucket is smaller and will not cover the track of your tractor. That causes problems with dozing.

Good luck. As others have said, the FEL is the world's most expensive wheel barrow but its the most important implement you will purchase.

Squire, I have a '99 B2710 and bought it with the LA401 front end loader (they now have an LA402 loader that's almost indentical). At the time I bought mine (two years ago), the dealer figured $2,900 for the loader installed. The grill guard is included with these loaders. After market loaders may or may not include a grill guard. The Operator's Manual with the loader includes sufficient installation instructions, but you will need both SAE and metric wrenches and quite a bit of time. As to whether you can do it yourself, probably so, but it sure would be easier to have the dealer install it.

As for the buckets, I have the standard 54" bucket, which is almost exactly the right width to cover my back tires, but I would recommend going with the 60" bucket for most applications.

A loader is probaly the most abused piece of equipment that you have. So when you buy a loader, if they give you a choice of loaders, buy the heavy duty one. People think, well all I am going to use it for is!! when they get the loader, they learn how useful it really is and then loader is too small or too weak to do some of the things that you want to use it for. Heavier is better!!
