I would like to add some gauges to my JD855. Primarily, I am going to add a water temperature gauge, because I can't stand having just the indicator light that suddenly pops on at a given temp. I am also considering adding the following.
<ul type="square"> [*]Engine Oil Temp [*]Engine Oil Pressure [*]Hydraulic Temp [*]Hydraulic Pressure [/list] The water temp gauge is easy, I can just replace the existing sensor, but where do the other sensors go? I am figuring that I can use engine oil temp/pressure gauges for the hydraulics, not needing anything special. Could the hydraulic temp probe go into one of the case drain plugs in the transmission? I would like to make sure I place the sensors on the best location to get accurate readings.

Oh yeah.....why add the gauges? Because I want to! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You're not going to use an oil pressure gauge for the hydraulic pressure. That line will blow before the gauge itself explodes.

What do you mean? The hydraulics is too much pressure for the oil gauge? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I don't know what pressures are developed by CUT pumps.

Oil pressure gauge may go to 100psi. Hydraulic pressures in a CUT can reach over 2500psi

Yea, but you'd probably have the fastest oil pressure guage around.

Hi Dave,
Better monitoring is a great reason for a great project like you're planning.

I don't think many, if any, tractors come with a hyd. pressure gauge...do they? But, it's still a neat idea. I bought an oil filled hyd. pressure guage to help set the pressure relief valve when I was doing some shimming. Now, that project is over. Rather than have the guage just sit in the garage, I have it pigtailed into the main high pressure line of my BackHoe. I wish I had one on the dash to watch for all tractor functions.

I'll be interested to see what you come up with.
