Hi, I am new to the whole tractor world and KNOW VERY LITTLE. I have just purchased a grey market Yanmar 2210BD tractor from Coldwater tractors out of Washington state. It will come with a new loafder that they build themselves. I am also going to buy a new post hole digger from them as their price is good. I WONT be able to afford their backhoe at the time I buy my tractor. They do sell one for around $2700.

Now I live in equipment country and wanted to know what kind or size of backhoe will this unit use if I stumble across a good used affordable backhoe locally. I actually know of two sitting in ranches with for sale signs on the but have no idea what would fit this particular tractor and no idea of the size I would need. In addition what should I look for when checking a used older backhoe.

I have learned that the 3PT is a CAT #1 but that is it. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.

To tell you exactly which one is kind of hard....too many makes and models are available and would fit . As a generic statement, a hoe that digs 5' min-7' max would probably be appropriately sized. Hoes are hard on attachment points. many people use 3 PT hoes for years w/o issue, some tear up hitch parts or even damage/break the tractors at the trans or bell housing. A subframe that distributes the hoe's forces across several attachment points and the tractors frame is considered less likely to cause damage to the machine. Chances are though, even if you find a used hoe w/ subframe, it will require modifications to bolt to your specific tractor.

You can't beat Coldwater's prices. Their products seem a little basic and not as well finished as most makes but they have a good reputation and I would trust them to set me up with something that wasn't going to damage my tractor.

Around here, used hoes under $2K are hard to find....anything less in good shape would probably be a good buy if shopping used.
