I am interested in buying a used 48 backhoe for my 4710, mainly to avoid the ghastly cost of a new one. Was wondering if I can add all the mounting hardware and power beyond to my tractor myself. My brother is a grain farmer with a lot of machinery experience, and could help. But is this something that I (we) can tackle, or is it best left to the pros?? Any and all advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

All the Installation Manuals are online. Take a look at the steps for yourself. I don't think you'll will have too much trouble. You will need to remove the rear wheels, so you need a good way to block it up. It is pretty straight forward, though...

Josh,

You should have no problem adding the parts your self.

But..... have you priced the mounting plates, mounting kit and power beyond? You may find the prices for these ghastly.
When I was looking for the mounting hardware for my future 4310 I first came across the mounting plates for the large frame series. If I was looking at the parts illustration correctly, the mounting plates were $600 each (LH & RH).

I think you will find that the installation is the cheap part.

Josh,

You'll need wrenches, sockets, a good torque wrench and the ability to follow instructions.

I bought a used 48 backhoe which was set up for a large frame (4700) tractor. I changed the weldment on the backhoe and installed the mounting brackets on my 4300. No rocket science required - just basic mechanical skills.

Send me a private message if you need the brackets. I still have the weldment and brackets for the large frame tractor and would be happy to sell them.

Thanks all. Looks like it's do-able.

And I'll consider it Jim, if I get one.

Thanks again.
