Adding rippers to a box blade

I am using my box blade more and more. I have recently been getting work busting up existing gardens with the rippers before I hit it with a walk behind tiller or the landowner finishes it off. It takes several passes, but does a pretty good job. I am thinking about cutting a couple of ripper slots so I can throw in a couple extra rippers after the first few passes to get a better till. I think I can do it for about $45. Anyone done it, or see any problems?

Don't know if you would really gain anything by doing that. if you have too many rippers it might limit the abilty to dig in deep. I think you are better off making several passes as you are currently doing.

Ripping in a checkerboard pattern is very efficient. Sometimes it is not possible due to the restrictions around the perimeter but it really breaks up the soil.

Even a rip at an angle to the original will do wonders.

The other issue is that additional rippers will start to move the dirt rather than just penetrate. Think York rake as the extreme case example.
