Is it possible for me to add or upgrade headlamps on the YM2000, without having to "modify" the factory wiring scheme of things??
If not...what modifications must I make??

Hi Jamester- I can't help you but I'll be watching this thread. My YM240D will be doing a lot of snow work this winter and much of it will be during dark hours. I'd like to upgrade mine to LEDs for brightness. If you find something that fits I hope you'll keep this thread updated.

Absolutely, The HID/LED upgrade is the same mod that I was hoping to do to my ym2000 as well...

I have started a couple of times to look for a solution that fits in the hole that we have for the headlights and be led so as not to add any additional load to the 15 amps my "alternator" makes. I could not find anything that would fit that space....but I am sure there is something out there. However, I did what many others have and installed 4 led work lamps. Two that face forward mounted on the ROPS and another facing backwards in the center of the ROPS and the 4th on the fender pointing backwards.

I read , i think on here somewhere where someone used like H3 bulbs or something maybe a different buld? they used like a coke can and cut a circle out of it with a mounting hole and then trimmed the plactic lense back to accept that then maybe mounted a flange to accept the buld or something? I really and not sure..i saw it on here somewhere i beleive? That was years ago so its burried somewhere on here

What I recall reading was that the bulb/reflector components that Yanmar used were shared only with a Yamaha snowmobile of the same or earlier era - or something like that.

So there isn't a drop-in modern LED replacement system on the market. Therefor you need to remove the Yanmar stuff to make room for some similar replacement.

For me ... I would keep it simple and just go with LED lights added to the ROPS.

i too would just add LEDs as there bright and simple auxillary install and require little power.

I haven't seen many lighting projects in this Yanmar forum but there are lots in some other forums. Review a few pages of the main 'today's posts' list. Or maybe search the whole site on 'LED'.

I would think that:
  • Tractor has ample power to light LED's
  • High/Low function might be lost, or not easily maintained. If you could find four small light bars I would think you could achieve a low beam/high beam with your existing wiring.
  • You could get close (little big/little small) to the factory size of lights and will have to create/fabricate a way to mount the lights. Aim for the small side if the idea of inset lights troubles you.
  • Dispite the fact that LED's should not be damaged from vibration any mounting of helights should consider some kind of dampining so the whole things dosnt rattle apart

I'm thinking on doing this to my tractor some day. As of now I have a light on the back which serves me well enough. Front headlights are there and functional, but I need the most light while blowing snow with the 3 PT snowblower...
