New to posting here guys. City boy trying to learn.

I just purchased a used L3400 with FEL and backhoe. I need to remove the backhoe and install the 3 pt hitch. All the threaded linkage was rusted up and I have got it all loose except one end of the top link. Still working on it.

I have a 5 ft. bush hog I want to install on my tractor and I don't know how to adjust the 3 pt hitch so I won't bend or break something. I have been surfing the web, but have not found a good diagram/explaination on how to adjust everything. Can someone give me a step by step? Thanks all!

This should be covered in your cutter manual, I think there is an active thread on this unless I am misunderstanding your post.

If you don't have a manual, go to the Land Pride site and look at the free manual on one of their cutters similar to yours and you will see detailed information on how to set it up for a proper cut.

I think the best answer you will get is that you will learn what works best for you by trial and error since so many tractors and implements are a bit different in how they fit together. At least that is what I get from lots of reading on these forums. I am relatively new to tractors myself and have only used a few implements.

Here is the scant info in the manual.

1. Select the proper set of hole by referring to the "Hydraulic Control Unit Use Reference Chart" in the "Hydraulic Unit" section. (for mowers - use #3 with Position Control/#4 with Draft Control - will always be bottom hole) [My dealer set mine up in middle hole and said it doesn't matter]

2. Once the implement is attached, level side to side using the adjusting handle on the right lift rod. Lengthen or shorten the rod to level the deck on the ground

3. Adjust the angle of the implement by lengthening or shortening the top link. (The mower should be a couple inches off the ground in back when touching the ground in the front to allow rear discharge of mown materials)

4. Check chains on each side should be tightened to keep the implement centered between the wheels.

It should not matter in this scenario, but if you were attaching an implement that is close to the rear of the tractor, you should remove the drawbar to prevent contact during operation.

You can search the threads for additional scenarios for mower deck adjustments and plow adjustments. These are the generic instructions the Kubota manual gives. Hope it helps some.

Thanks guys that helps. Looks like a lot of trial and error.

I finally got both ends of the top link broke loose last night. Alot of spray and some heat finally did it.

Also make sure the PTO shaft is not too long so it bottoms out. That can casue damage.

Got it, thanks guys. Found a diagram with the paperwork I had lost for the bush hog. Thanks for the help.
