Jinma JM200LE
I advanced the Injector timing on my JM-200LE today. Slow starting was the primary motivation. A lack of crispness in running was also a factor. My thanks to Tommy of Tommy's Afordable Tractors for his technical guidance. He suggested moving it in small increments until I got the performance I expected instead of removing all the equipment fan forward and using the timing marks. I still had to remove the lower radiator hose to get the cover off. I moved the Injector drive wheel in small amounts, running each time, until it started as quick as I could turn and release the key. I had a little detonation at and above idle. After riding around a short time I opened it up and retarded the Fuel Injection about an eight of an inch in the slot. It still starts as quick but I can hear no detonation above idle. The idle speed increased to 900 from 850 RPM. I can now take off cleanly in H2 with no trottle, without lose of RPM. All in all a good thing to do. Any suggestions on bad results to watch for would be appreciated. I suspect if the fuel flows freely it will start, only a little slower in North Louisiana level of cold temperatures.
Best regards,
Harold

One more question after the injector tuning. Before it took up to 10 seconds to start and I always got some light colored smoke when the engine first ran. Now it takes , cold, maybe under 2 seconds and I get some black smoke on firing. All comments are welcomed.
Thank you,
Harold

Hey Harold,

If I remember correctly, you have the Y380T engine, and that is the same engine as I have in my 224.

The procedure that I use on start up on a cold engine is: A little bit of hand throttle, Engage Decompression lever, Glow Plugs for about 5 seconds(more in cold weather), engage starter, release decompression lever, and usually mine starts right up. If not I repeat procedure. Upon startup, I notice a little bit darker smoke, that clears right up.

Do you think that there is a possibility, that your fuel pump, is not delivering the correct pressure? I'm just wondering if in the beginning, if it was taking a longer than normal period of time, to get the fuel to the cylinders. And I also remember you saying that your engine was slow on reving up. which tends to make me think in this direction. Just a hunch though.

Another thought, also, I remember reading posts from others on new tractors, that had trash in the injector lines and the little filters @ the injectors. If that is the case, then, you may have some debris that is constricting the fuel flow to your injectors. Still just a hunch, but I am leaning more toward a fuel supply problem. If you read back on some previous posts, I think that you will find other's that had problems, with either trash or the injector pumps, not working properly. Check/Clean for trash, Check Pressure on injector lines.

Get your tractors running &
Have a nice day,

Black smoke = unburned fuel due to late injection. Gray smoke good, black/white/blue smoke bad. You're starting easier, because the fuel is delivered closer to the end of the compression stroke. The cylinder temp is hotter. Incomplete atomization due to late delivery means that not all the fuel is ignited during the power stroke. Less significant detonation - quieter engine. The residue of incomplete combustion then comes out as black smoke during the exhaust stroke.

Nothing too serious though, unless it lasts more than 2-3 seconds after startup and/or occurs under heavy load. Or if you find you're filling up the fuel tank more often. It's a tradeoff, the value of which is determined by which is more important to you; power and fuel economy, or easier starting.
