Many thanks for all the helpful suggestions. A couple of follow-up comments/questions...

For now I do not have to take care of all 130 acres, just the land around our house and dependences and the garden. I can borrow a larger tractor in a pinch if anything every required a lot more power.

The road is tar and chip, so I will only need to clear snow. We have an side-by-side UV - would it be better to get a blade for that to clear the occasional snow we get?

I am trying to understand the extra features of the "Grand L" series over the MX5100. I know the Grands have the HST+ transmission. Are there other things not on the MX5100 that I would miss? I am a little resistant to "extras" as aside from the expense they just seem like more things to break.

What is the difference between Tier 3 and Tier 4 tractors. I know the later is more "green" but I had been told the extra filter only needed to be changed every 2000hrs. I did like the new instrument panel in the pics of the MX5200.

I am open to used tractors, but I have been warned about buying something that you do not know the history on... given that I am NOT a mechanic is buying used really a reasonable route?

Thanks again for everyone's very helpful advice and suggestions!

Tractors for the most part are very durable. I don't think that I would consider one that had thousands of hours without knowing some history of the tractor or person selling. But tractors that have smaller amounts of time used should be OK. However it would be better if you take someone with you that have knowledge of tractors. Good luck on your decision and purchase.
