I am looking at this tractor to replace my current 790. I had posted a while back about a 2001 4600 but I beleive that one has sold already. I have a couple who is going to the bank today to try to get financing for my 790 so hopefully it will all work out and be sold soon. So anyways, back to the 4400.....it is a 2002 with approx. 1,200 hours on it. 430 FEL, Hydro, R4 tires on it. The ad lists it for $14,750 but I would hope to be able to negotiate a bit on that price. Can someone tell me for sure what the lift capacities are for teh FEL and the 3pt? I have also been reading on these forums about some specific PIP issues that the 4400 has/had. Is there any way to find out if these issues have already been addressed to this particular machine or something that I should be looking at to see if there is a potential issue before purchasing?? Here are the pictures that the salesman emailed to me yesterday -

Also - what can anyone tell me about the right rear wheel where the rust area is? It almost looks like someone attempted a repair or something?? Can't figure out what that round hole-looking thing is in the rim.

If you get the S/N then any JD dealer can pull up the service and warranty issues fixed at any dealer-they can also tell you where it was sold.

The rust is a dead giveaway to me that the wheels are filled with a calcium mix for added weight, and while very effective for that purpose-it also corrodes the rims badly.

3PH is about 2200lbs 24" behind the balls, and about 2500lbs at the balls.

The 430 lift capacity is about 1500lbs IIRC.

These are/where very good machines.

Well - thanks for the advice but might as well close this thread. I was informed that they sold this tractor this afternoon! Guess the hunt continues......

When you see a nice tractor for a decent price, you've got to move pretty darn quick.
So, you've got to either sell your 790 (to have cash in hand) or be willing to trade it toward the newer tractor.

In the 12-15k price range one cannot drag your feet. Argue price, put a down payment on it, contingent on a full inspection to your level of satisfaction. The new is getting higher priced and I'm not sure the components are as good although they say new engineering is producing a much better product. Its nice to be in a position to buy new and write the check :).
