<font color=blue>Oh, what does the "1500" mean? Is that a 3/4 ton capacity?</font color=blue>

Its a 1/2 ton.

I echo every one else that you cant go wrong for $500.00

If they can crank it under the hood it isn't the solenoid. Try the ignition switch or, more likely, the clutch safety switch.

Oops, I read the book wrong. The 292 I6was offered up through 1986, but not 1987. They came out with the 262 V6 in 1985 and the 292 and 262 were both available in 1985 and 1986. In 1987 they dropped the 292. In 1985 they changed the body style to a slightly more aerodynamic hood and fenders. So, in 1984 it was either a 250 or 292 and it had the more squared off front end.

<font color=blue>Just pop the hood and grab the linkage arm on the column and lift</font color=blue>

Brings back memories of my '73 Chevy truck. You'd think they'd have fixed that problem by '87. A girl I dated in college knew this trick from an even older car her parents had /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

<font color=blue>Oh, what does the "1500" mean? Is that a 3/4 ton capacity? </font color=blue>

This is my unofficial guide to "American made" truck decifering:

If the model begins with a "1", then it is a 1/2 ton (10, 100, 150, 1500, etc).
If the model begins with a "2" then it is a 3/4 ton (20, 200, 250, 2500, etc).
If the model begins with a "3" then it is a 1 ton (30, 300, 350, 3500, etc).

Dodge 2wd pickups begin with a "D" while the 4wd models begin with a "W" and the vans begin with a "B" (D150, W250, B350, etc).

Ford trucks begin with an "F" and the vans begin with an "E".

Chevy trucks begin with a "C"; I think this is true also for GMC trucks also but I can't remember. I also can't remember what the Chevy vans start with.

Hope this helps for anyone truck shopping...
Kelvin

GM vans are "G" and 4X4 trucks are "K" /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

RobS,
Thanks for the additional information. As you can probably tell, I have more familiarity with the Dodge products than the other offerings.

Since I made the post, I have noticed that since Dodge came out with the new design in 1994 that they quit putting the "D" and "W" in front of the 1500, 2500, and 3500 on the truck. I don't know if the "D" and "W" are still part of the model number or not.

Kelvin, I'm not sure if Dodge still uses the W and D or not either. The marketing names are different than the internal code names anyway. The previous Dodge was the BR and the newest one is the DR. Ford has all sorts of platform names for thier trucks and I've pretty well lost track of GM lately /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
