Tractor
L3430 GST, BX1500
I may go have a look at an '04 3830 with 270 hrs (per the ad) tomorrow. Asking $5700 with a LA723 and a box blade.

This will be my first tractor of this size, I've had a bx1500 for several years and love it. This 3830 sounds like a good deal to me provided it has no hidden issues. I would appreciate any advice on what to look for, how to look for it and anything I should ask the seller about. Also, does the pricing sounds as good as it seems to me? The tractor shows some use, but I'm only really concearned about the mechanical condition.
Thanks in advance.

The price sounds too good to be true, so be very careful... before you know it you will be sending money to Nigeria or something.

It does seem to good. On the other hand, what if it is legitimate....hmmmm. Below is the ad which is all I have to go on. I've emailed him to set up a time to see it.

"Mechanically, this vehicle runs great.
2004 Kubota L3830 Diesel Tractor 4x4 Front end loader is a LA723 and box blade, 39 hp, engine cylinders: 3.The tractor has 259.5 hours on it @ runs really good @ has a Hydrostatic transmission. The tractor was a little dirty when we took the picture but it is in very good condition. "

Either they misclicked and forgot a 1 in front of the $5700 or they are are crooks I would not give my phone # or email to.

Ya know, I've got 20 years of active life left. I want an orange tractor and by the grace of God I can afford a new one AND the wife is all for it. Forget the original intent of this post and please advise on how to negotiate the best dealer price for a L2800 or 3400.

At $15,700 its a deal. I'd buy it at that. I had a L3830 HST. Its simply a superb tractor. I sold mine for $22,000 with a mower and toothbar plus TnT.

I would first go to the Kubota website and build one to get an idea of the MSRP and go from there. Barlow has a feature where you can do something similar though this will be a more realistic price.

I started looking at the 3400, but quickly decided I liked the added features of the Grand L.

I agree, if you are going to get something and keep it twenty years, get what you want.

I have the Grand L3130 and love it but I agree get what you want the first time.Sometimes I wish I would have gotten the bigger tractor like the L 3830.I just bought a used l3400 for reselling and had it beside my 3130 and the Grand L is a nicer tractor but if you are on a budget I think the l3400 is a pretty nice tractor for the $$$.

bjess8, you need to fill out your profile as to where you are at, I figure it shouldn't take you too long to sell your extra tractor ;) (or are you growing attached to it)

As for getting a good price from dealers... I got one good quote and asked other dealers if they wanted to beat the price (NOT a good way to shop for a tractor) I ended up with a dealer that did not stand behind what he sold me and was no longer a dealer after a few years. I buy all of my supplies from the dealer that gave me the first original quote.

I tried the L3130 and really wanted it. The small motor, the great loader specs etc. The HST just requires more umph. I really think the L3830 HST was an incredibly matched machine. I had a L48 and would take one L3830 over 2 L48's. I liked it that much. There were times without exageration when I did not realize I was mowing in H instead of M. You never, ever made that mistake with the L48. H was for down hill escapades only.
