Buying Advice advice on a used model1882

Hello everyone. I need some sound advice on the possible buying of a reliable, running, 1991 1882 Cub. It has a bucket loader up front, 50 inch deck and a cat 0, 3 point. Might only have 331 hrs, dealer believes that the hrs are original. It was received on a trade in for a new Kubota. asking price is $4900.00.
I have a LT1018 and would like a bigger garden tractor for doing odd jobs on my 2.0 acres. My other options are a base model 2004 New Holland GT20A for $6500 and a new Cub GT2544 for $3900.00.
any insight and opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

$4900 for a 1991 1882????? Sounds pretty darn high to me. I think it was about $4000 new without attachments. But of course condition is everything and the attachments can add a lot selling price especially I guess the loader.

I just sold a 1988 1872 for $1,000. Of course it had a LOT more hours and probably wasn't in near the condition of this one. It had a 60" deck.
Make sure the hour meter is working. Hours can be misleading(can be unplugged or replaced easily). Check the internet for comparison prices.

$3900 for the GT2544 is pretty good.

I thought it seemed high as well but I can't find many comparisons on the internet. Two examples that I found were a 1975 with 60"deck and new clutch for $3500 and $2500 for 1990 with a 60" deck.
On a looks scale it measures probably a 5 out of 10. It needs to be washed and cleaned up for sure. I'm guessing(hoping?) that the front end loader is adding quite a bit to the value. The one for sale compares to yours actually in looks.

The price is very high on the 1882. The question I have is whether you need the loader or not. The 2554 is a nice tractor but will it be enough bigger and have the capability you are looking to move up to from your current machine. If you need the loader you can put a small one on a Cub garden tractor, probably should find a SGT model, or you have to move up to a sub compact tractor which will be a lot more money. If you don't need the loader you have a lot more options, should be able to find a great tractor for under $2,000, or maybe $3,000 if you want newer and less hours. You can always add a Johnny Bucket later if you need to move some material.

Do you need the loader? How old is still OK with you?

I like the idea of having the loader in order to move stuff around the yard, stone for the driveway things like that. Here's my line of thought: I can afford the $4900 but can't afford more for a sub compact. The way I look at it is here is a nice older tractor that I wasn't looking for with 2 attachments that will come in handy at a price that I can afford. My wife and I don't want monthly payments.
As far as old goes, all of the posts that I've seen have stated that the 1882 should last for a long time so I don't think that the age is too great a problem.
As far as the GT2544 goes, what are the implements that can be attached to that?

If I have my models correct the 1882 is basically the same tractor as my 2084, a super garden tractor. I assume it has an 18 HP Kohler instead of the 20 HP in mine, and mine is a '94 so the 1882 is a few years older, though mine has a lot more hours on it. To give you perspective on price I bought mine for $1,200 with a 54" deck, a good buy and I've seen similar SGT's go for closer to $2,000 since.

I think you'd pay maybe $1,500 for a loader for the 1882, might be more, not sure.

I'd suggest you take a day or two to look on Ebay and Craigslist and maybe a few of the better known Cub dealers for comparison before you buy, I just think you can find a similar tractor for $1,500 less than that price, especially when you rate it a 5 out of 10 for condition.

I don't have much to add, but there is an 1882 for sale on tractor house for $1,750 without a loader. That should give you an idea of what the base tractor value is, from there you have to decide how much the loader is worth. Personally, I wouldn't give more than $2,000 for the loader...which would put the value at less than $4,000...but that's just me. 4900 is a bit high. However, the 1882 is a super garden tractor, so built quite a bit more rugged than the garden tractor. The loader and 3-pt will add considerably to the value.
I've owned several SGT's, and they're very good machines. My last one was a 1996 1782 that had the bucket, deck, front blade with power angle, rear 3-pt and PTO, with several attachments that I sold for $6500. It had about 300 actual hours, and was in perfect shape. These tractors new cost 7-9K, very expensive at the time. They are essentially a step between a garden tractor and a sub-compact.
Is it a kwik-way loader? That is what I had, and it was made for the Cub SGT's, a very nice loader you could pick nearly 500 lbs with. New they are around $3500. It was a task to remove it and install the mower deck, I ended up welding some custom brackets to streamline the task.
Does it have the rear PTO? Or the front hydraulic ports? The front blade is awesome with the power angle, as well as the 551 blower. Any of these extras will add additional value.
I would place a value between 3500 and 4000 for the machine if the hours are close. You haven't mentioned if you've tried talking down the price? I doubt he will get that price for it. Got any pics of it? Keep us informed!

I'd hit him up with $3,000 and not go over about $3500....that is if it's in good shape. You're gonna have to keep in mind this thing is 17 years old and things are gonna need to be replaced and it may be a bit finicky with some things. I'd go over it with a fined-tooth comb and try out EVERYTHING on it and not be in a hurry. I think the price they are asking will also keep other buyers at arm's reach so it may not disappear too fast on you.

I think Johnny Buckets are about $1,000-1,500 for the new Cubs. Now it isn't as strong as a loader, but should be adequate for general yard work.

Also keep in mind if you are wanting a tiller, a new one for the 2500 Series is about $3,000!!!!!!!!!!! YOu can get one for the 1882 for maybe $250-700.....if you can find one.

The price seems a little high to me as well. I have a 1872 and we mow about the same acreage as you mentioned. Our terrain is pretty rough but it just sucks it up and keeps going. Nothing but good things to say about it.

However, one thing I would be concerned with on a tractor this size with a loader is the front spindles. Even though the SGT has a massive front axle, we broke a spindle w/o a loader just mowing. I think they are around 80 bucks (a few years ago) from CCC which is a lot for what they are.
