Looking for some advice on possible purchase of a JD 3520 Cab
My situation:
27 mostly wooded acres, some steep slopes
500' of gravel driveway (sloped w/ 90 degree bend) and 1000' of sloped gravel road.
Lots of snow
No horses or farm
Big garden
Work a full time job - just a weekend and summer country property owner
Uses:
Gardening
Firewood - (dragging trees out of forest to the road)
Mowing the weeds on the road and fire roads - not a lot for a tractor, but weed whacking is getting old.
Lots of snow removal
Turning burn pile into chips for garden and landscaping
Post hole digging for structures, fences, etc.
All the other things that I never knew I needed a tractor for
I've been advised that much less than 40hp would leave me dissatisfied - the JD 3520 fits pretty well. JD is the dealer in town and the quote is as follows:
2013 3520 - $ 22,446
deluxe cab - $ 8,500 (they need to find one in the dealer network)
300cx loader - $ 4,549
Snow Blower -59" 2-Stage - $ 5,706
WC1105 Wood Chipper - $ 4,305
RC2060 Rotary Cutter - $ 1,580
phd200 w 9" auger - $ 1,120
filled r4 tires (he forgot to include in the quote - guessing $650)
Total=> $ 48,207 - $0 down / 0 interest => $803 / mo
Dealer says new 3037R would be $2k more (funny, I only see 3039R on JD site).
I'm trying to get over the sticker shock. Are these prices decent? The Snow Blower seems high as it is $4,131 on the JD website. Is it worth getting the older 3520 model (if the dealer can find one with a cab) or should I go for the new 3R series?
I've been plowing with the truck - 1 1/2 hours many times per winter. Is snow blowing with the JD cab a major upgrade?
I know that I can rent equipment to mow, chip, dig post holes, etc. However, I hope the convenience of having a tractor will be life changing and asking do I really need this to survive? Been here 8 years without a tractor, but I'm turning 60 and I'm finding things aren't quite so easy as they once were. Would love to hear stories of the difference a tractor has made for you.
Thanks for the input.
