I have a bunch of utility trailers. a 5x10 for building materials, firewood, moving kids to college etc. The other is 4x6 that I use around the property for firewood mostly because it's small enough to manouever around the woods.
I'm looking at the Sure Trac 4.5 x 8 dump to replace both those trailers. ( Sure Trac | ) It would be nice to be able to pick up a ton of gravel or soil myself. I'm worried that I may be disappointed with the small tires or some other feature. Also I will have to rig up some kind of stake sides to add enough volume to move things other than gravel.
Anyone have experience or advice for something like this?
thanks

I know someone that has used a similar trailer. It works well but like you said, isn't very heavy duty. I'm not sure it would haul even a ton of materials but you can probably tell by the weight rating. Used within its limits, I'd think it would do the job for you.

I would say get something a bit bigger if you want it to be useful to pick up material. The payload on that trailer is just above 1 ton and a yard of gravel is going to be more like 1 1/2 tons.

unfortunately that's about the limit for my tow vehicle anyway.

Sure Trac is just around the corner from me, and they do have some nice trailers.
Have you called and talked to them at all?

I called but they really didn't want to talk to me me. I was referred to the dealer for all my questions.

I picked up a used Cross Country Mfg. 5x8, dump from a local rental place. It has a 2 ton payload and after some TLC and paint I probably have less in it than those are new ($1,300 purchase and about $600 in parts, paint). Just a thought. I did look over something equivalent to those sure tracs at the dealer where I purchased my Massey from and was not super impressed.
