Advice sought about grading gravel driveway

Running your box blade with the scarifiers down can get a lot of the buried gravel back to the top. Whenever my driveway gets out of shape, that's the first thing I do. Always amazed at how much gravel magically reappears. After that, I may fine tune with the box blade hanging at an angle a bit.

You guys need land planes for your gravel driveways. If it's ever had enough rock a land plane will pull it back up to the surface and lay it back out perfectly smooth. All you have to do is drop it on the ground and drive. No constantly messing with the 3 point or anything like that.

simply use granular A, it is best as far as materiel goes for a driveway it has good compaction, easy to work with safe for tires and to walk on.

it is important to fix the road before adding gravel like many have pointed out. the reason is, if there is wash board or pot holes it doesn’t matter how much gravel you add on top of the road existing profile will get translated back to the surface, you need to cut the material down to the base of the wash board or pot hole then create the correct crown then add gravel …. like on hwy construct as a example if there is a pot hole and you add 1ft of gravel evenly on on the road, grade it to the right profile (-3% from the center line so it settle at -2%) compact it and put asphalt on top the pot hole is back to surface within a year.

I love my new land plane (bay boy 72" land grader). It does what str8 says, and just puts all the gravel right back on top nice and even. It's crazy good at this task, one or two passes and your road looks like new.

However! I am finding that it does tend to kill the crown in my drive. I need to get it formed with more of an inverted "V" shape, instead of a rounded crown. Then I can drive down each side of it to refresh the gravel without completely flattening it.
