I got my 1980 Ford 545 stuck. In working with the backhoe and loader to get it out, I heard a loud thump and then all hydraulics cease working. It was dark, so I didn't have time to check it out.

Any ideas where I should start?

Thanks to all!!

Not much to go on...

Fluid level? Maybe you blew a hose?

Dont know how/where the hyd pump is located but if its off the front of the crank possibly just the coupler gave out?

You may want to look at the driveline to the pump. I looked on the CNH online parts book, and it shows a double u-joint driveline.

If it's like our old 550, the u-joints were greasable type, but in their infinite wisdom, made no access to grease them. We ended up cutting a like 6" X 6" hole through the side of the front shell asembly to be able to grase them.

I got back out to my Ford Backhoe and found that the universal drive from the engine shaft to the hydraulic pump is shattered. Should be an easy fix as soon as I get the part.

Where do you get parts inexpensively and quickly?

Thanks

"Where do you get parts inexpensively and quickly?'

Doubt that happens. You may find one in a salvage yard. but it may not be much better shape than what you started with.

Quickest would probably be through your nearest CNH dealer. Be ready for some sticker shock. All companies seem to be pretty proud of them parts...

You can go to CNH's website, and go to the construction side, then bring up the parts search. Type in your model # and it will display the whole tractor in an exploded view, section by section. The part numbers are listed.. You can copy and paste them in Google search, and if there is one on the net somewhere, it will pop up. Or..., just use the numbers to make sure your on the same page with the parts guy at a dealership.

Good luck..!!

Take the old one to a good auto parts store. They may be able to match it.

I would try a driveline co . Try the yellow pages under truck parts ,etc
