Does anyone have any advice on getting an after market carb for my 69 JD 1520? A JD one cost upwards of $1000.

Thanks=Jon

I agree that if carb body is good all one needs are a few parts such as needle/seat,throttle shaft bushings and maybe a throttle shaft and/or float. Then soaking in a good carb cleaner and blowing out and assembly. That is unless yours has the electric solenoid which may require attention. What is your carb model #? Is it TSX 944? If you get a replacement carb it won't have the pesky elect. solenoid

I'm not sure of the model #. My best friend is a mechanic and he is tuning the tractor up for me. I got a carb kit and he rebuilt is. Knowing him I'm sure it looks like new. He said he can make it work, but the restrictor plate is sloppy and he can't do anything with that (I think I got that right, I'm not a mechanic and I don't know parts that well). When we ordered the kit from John Deere Steve checked on the price of a carb. He said that he wanted to check because as old as the tractor is, there is a chance the carb could be worn out. A new one was $1000 (@). They told us at the JD store that there are aftermarket carbs available for less.
