I'm researching what tractor/attachments to get.

I see on a lot of the used tractors for sale that they have after-market FELS like the Kokyer.

Are these as strong as the original manufacturer FELs? Strong enough for light duty excavating work?

Any real advantages to getting the original manufacturer FEL instead of the after-market?

:confused::confused::confused:

Thanks

The only real advantage I can think of it's designed and made for ONE tractor. After market will fit a number of tractors. I have an after market Koyker on my Ford and believe me.. I'd wreck the tractor before I'd do too much damage to the FEL. I would not be afraid of after market on a used tractor, but I'd look for certain features. Mainly quick removal feature, which most have today.

Look at QUICKE loaders - Quicke Dimension front loaders

I have a Quicke 710 mounted on a 50hp tractor and have nothing but good things to say about it. You wouldn't BELIEVE how many jobs you will dream up just to use it.

Hey 49T&C, if you don't mind my asking, what's the ballpark cost on the 710. I am looking for one for my JD5203, 56 hp. The Frontier 60'' FEL is $4500 installed.

I too am looking at the different options on FEL for my 5105. I almost traded for one just like it with a loader already on it, but have about decided to add the John Deere 512 loader. A lot of people keep recommending to get a loader with the quick disconnect, but no one I know takes theirs off. I can see taking the bucket or attachment off, but in my situation I do not have a need to remove the frame. The hydraulics for the 512 plumb directly into the tractor and leave my two rear remotes free for other uses one of which could be to operate a grapple. I am leaning toward the 73" bucket instead of the standard 66". Dealer working up price now. Looks like he is around $5500 installed.

deere5105, the Frontier FEL I taked to dealer about was the 512 and 61''. He told me that was as large as the 512 gets. The 73'' you mentioned, is that the 512 or 521 or some other model? tks.

herd, the 512 is listed on the Deere web site. You can go to build your own and create one to your liking. You can click on the customization tab and find the option to add the 73" bucket for an extra $110. I read where they started using the 66" bucket as the standard instead of a previously narrower bucket, may have been 61" I can't remember, because the 66" would cover your tracks. I have used a loader with the 73" bucket and really liked it. Seems like it would give you a little more capacity for moving material. You mention Frontier and not Deere. Not sure if that is something different or not but I suspect is is the same thing.
