I know it it a garden tractor with limited ability with its FEL but there is a company ANBO and it makes grappler/ loaders for subcompacts- could I use this on lets say an x720???

That is far to light of a machine for something like that. Not only that, the hydraulic capacity is already stretched by using a loader, having a 3rd valve would not work on such a small hydraulic system.

The smallest grapple I have ever seen is still well over 300 pounds. Even if you could find a way to get the grapple mounted and operational, it would only be able to lift 150 or 200 pounds at best.

If you need a grapple, you need a bigger machine.

Thanks-I was unsure but that answer was a good confirmation.

I don't know if the ANBO grapple would work - there are no specifications available on their website. But there's no reason a small grapple would not work on the JD45 loader on an X700. You may need to build your own unless you can find one small enough - would need to keep the weight under 150 pounds or so. You'd also need to figure out how to add a third hydraulic circuit - using a mechanical or electric flow diverter would be the easiest, but you could go nuts and figure out a way to add a true third circuit. Hydraulic capacity will not be a problem if you use the diverter approach as you'll only be using two circuits at a time. If you go with three circuits and want to use them all at once, it'll slow you down a bit as your pump can only provide so much fluid.

If you already have the x720 with the 45 loader you could rig up a grapple and lift alot more with the machine than doing it by hand. If you don't have the machine yet and are considering an upgrade in size I would recommend you keep the existing mower and get a small tractor with a fel and increased ground clearance for this type of work. This assumes you have enough of this clean up work to make this practical, if not then do it by hand and giturdone.

There's a guy on youtube that made his own grapple from square tubing for bx kubota. The cylinder and valve will weigh 50 albs and I don't think you could build a rake less than 100 lbs. The grapple thumb will weigh about 35-50 lbs. The quick attach parts will be 20-40 lbs easy. I'd say 225lbs is as small as you can go unless you build it from high strength steel. Then you may shave off 10-20 lbs.

You could eliminate the need for a third hydraulic circuit by substituting the hydraulic cylinder with a 12v actuator for about $350 to $500

I would use a electric diverter valve to split the curl and grapple function. They are pretty cheap and you would still only have 2 levers or a joystick instead of trying to locate a 3rd lever.

Linear actuators are slow in my opinion.
