1965 Massey 135
On my newly purchased 1965 continental gas massey it already had an aftermarket screw on filter. I removed said filter and went to NAPA for a replacement filter. NAPA was super helpful(no massey dealer is close). The filter that i took off had 5 or so holes that matched up with the plate on the engine block whereas the new filter only has 2 small holes. Does this matter? Here is an ebay ad showing the type filter I removed.

Fram oil filters are known for using a cheap internal design (cardboard) which is prone to failure. After losing a newly rebuilt car engine because of a Fram oil filter failure I'll never use them in anything again.

The following website compares the internal design of various oil filters.

Most of the Continental Z engines use a partial flow oil filter. When you replace them with a spin on, there is a restrictor in the spin on filter to take the place of the control orifice in the center rod of the OEM canister filter system.
I use a NAPA(WIX) 1050 filter on our TO-30 (Z129) and it has two small holes on the face plate and a restrictor below the screw on hole and that sounds like what you have. if so, that's the corrector spin on.

I use the NAPA gold I assume like Jerry made by Wix on my NH has worked very well for me.

I note your website comparison tests are over 8 years old...I never lost a "high" performance engine (in relation to those that turn up only 2k rpm) to a Fram 'cause I stopped using them in auto V8s back in the 70s....don't you think you could compare to something that was somewhat more recent and therefore more relevant? PS: You can use what you want, and so will I...BobG in VA I'm pretty sure this response will throw you into a tizzy, but pls remain calm..no intent to start a flame war.

My post was meant to be helpful but it seems that you took it a bit personal because I countered your advice with a warning.

The information I provided about Fram oil filters and their poor internal construction is just as relevant today as it was then, a fact that I confirmed prior to posting it. The link was only meant to help illustrate the bad experience I had with Fram oil filters which caused an engine failure, but if you insist on seeing something more recent it's not difficult to find.

BTW: The following video shows what a Fram oil filter looks like when it fails, which happens to be very similar to what I found after cutting apart a new Fram oil filter (less than 50 miles on it) that failed and destroyed a newly rebuilt car engine.

johnking....sorry about the intervening crap that completely lost the original thread intent...again...the units that you find that will convert your tractor to a spin on oil filter will in MOST cases provide a Fram PB50 filter...I didn't make any value judgements based on your inquiry. Mine came with the Fram. I've had no problems with it....oil pressure is good...engine runs good. Nuff said...Hope this helps you in your quest. BobG in VA

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but could you please explain how pointing out that Fram oil filters (which come with most spin-on kits) might fail is "crap" and "completely lost" to the original intent of this thread?

You asked for more recent evidence and I provided precisely that.
