AG bar (R1) vs AG Rib (F2)

Now, I have discovered that there exist two different types of AG (R1 and F2) tires. Bar versus Rib. Every time I think it gets easier, something new comes up like this and I realize I have to come back to TBN and ask another question!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif In the NH numbering system, rib is 810860406, bar is 833860406. The literature I read says that the R1 is not recommended for loader working the two wheel drive package, yet does not make the same statement for the 4 WD package.

Question: What is the difference between AG bar and AG rib??????????? Why 2WD restrictions for loader work with R1 (bar), okay with rib (F2) vs apparently no restriction for 4WD tractor with bar (R1), or rib (F2)?

A rib is usually referring to a circumferential raised section on the tire, usually 1 to 3 for tractors. They are meant for the front wheels of 2 wheel drive tractors, originally intended to make it easier for the tractor to climb out of furrows and such.

Load carrying capacity will be a function of size and ply rating. With a 4wd tractor, you probably want 6 ply R1s. The F designation may be an artifact from the original Front wheel placement, the R from rear.

Did a little digging at firestoneag.com...

Yes, F2 "rib" is a designator for a front tire on 2WD tractors. Here's an image:

The URL for this tire is Champion Guide Grip 3-Rib F-2

I have a similar three rib front tire on my JD 1020 2WD tractor. As you can probably see from the image, these tires are primarily designed for steering control.

Thanks, now I understand F2.
