They count your driveway and the land the house sits on, I loose 1 acre for the homestead. Tax exempt for things like tractors you fill out a form at the dealer, for other stuff you need get tax exempt certificate and file annually, on your taxes you run it like any other business, there used to be a special class number for timber farming but now it is form F and fill in Timber farm.

I did find this out today, as you said when I build they will associate 1 acre of land as no longer greenbelt ( so you homestead instead that single acre ) but the rest is still at a reduced rate assuming you are still practicing agriculture which I have every intention of doing.

Some products that you purchase are dependent on their end use. For example, if I buy some steel beams, if they are for a new building, it is not exempt, if it is for maintenance or safety of existing structures, then it is exempt from sales tax. Check with your tax officials.
