Hey all....man, its been a while since I've been on here..looks like a lot of folks have joined since I was on last....hope everyone is enjoying their blue machines..I still haven't ordered mine...but have given up the research in that I'm gonna order the 4047 before the year's out as I need the tax deduction..ha! Question, my buddy just bought a 30 hp LS yesterday, and I was drooling over his, he was telling me that he believes those turf tires are actually better traction than Ag tires. (he had actually tried two friends Kubota's one with Ag and one with turf and he thought the turf was better) My dealer seems to order all his LS's with turf tires (except for the large cabs that have Ag tires)...anyone got any thoughts on whether the turfs are actually better than Ag, I know they are wider, but it seems the traction would still be better with Ag...give me your thoughts/experience. My buddy said the turf's run about $600 more?

Hey I just realized I said turf, but I actually think they are industrial....they have tread between Ag and the car tire tread?? I also just see that someone else was asking a similar question...I'll check that out..

You are refering to r4 industrials. They fair better than turfs on soft soil but will pack with mud and become slicks. They are long wearing for asphalt use. Ags will always fair better in mud but the industrials will be easier on the lawn. True turfs are great for grass, floatation and snow removal on asphalt or hard pack since they have alot of contact patch and chains work well. R4s are by far the most popular these days for all around use but ags may be better if you do alot of ground engaging work.

Only place turfs might have better traction than ag tires is on pavement. Other wise R1's (ag) tires will win.

Personally I have never liked R4 industrial tires. Like arsenix stated they give better wear and have stiffer side walls. I have had them on skid steers and Back hoes and they just don't provide any traction in loose dirt, mud or snow.

Been lots of discussions about do R1's tear up the lawn as much as R4's or turf. If you want a manicured lawn like a golf course they may. If it is a yard then I have never had issues with Ag tires on yards either.

how does the R1, R4, etc relate to AG, TURF, INDUSTRIAL..? is R1, R4 etc the technical terms of industrial / ag tire? or is r 1/4 another type of tire

thanks

Without confusing the issue with all the variations, here are the three basic tire types most compact tractor owners deal with. First, the technical term, then the common name.

R1 = ag
R3 = turf
R4 = industrial

There is lots of information in the 15 existing threads on this subject.

ray66v.. doing a search on tires replies w/ 26 pages.. possibly 95% of all questions have already been answered at some point.. if all questions were answered w/ "already been answered" (which is possible).. than most forums would just be a bunch of stickys..

new people join, people leave - different opinions/views are told, technology changes.. plus this is more fun.. me being new to tractors i enjoy seeing responses from the elders here..

Yes, discussing ag's vs. turfs again, at this point, IS reinventing the wheel. But, if this is how you guys want to spend your time, you can discuss this topic from now to eternity, I DON'T CARE.

HE SAID: "give me your thoughts/experience".

I pointed out to the OP there was lots of information in the 15 threads on this subject, in case he would actually be interested in reading them.

HE ALSO SAID: "I also just see that someone else was asking a similar question...I'll check that out.."

Which is confusing, but HE is indicating he has interest in reading other threads. :confused2:

And yes, I will continue to point out to posters that there are archives full of useful information. Some of them actually appreciate it.
