I'm considering putting a 72"finish mower on my 3000DT,I have ag tires on now, what kind of damage will these do to a lawn? I think I know the answer, and have priced out a set of turf tires and rims for $1054.00, sound like a good price?

Bernie,

I'd "test" the lawn on the perimeter for "ag" damage. You can do finish mowing with ag's, just slow down {mow only when dry} and don't expect a "golf course" quality lawn... it's gonna leave marks.

On the other hand, are you gonna "change" all four tires & rims everytime you expect to mow the lawn?... and then back again to ag's when you 'trek into the woods or "rough country" for serious brushhogging?

You've got to decide what is the primary reason {perhaps 75% useage} that you got the tractor in the first place.

I'd save the "$1000, and not buy the turf's", but if you just have the urge to spend money... buy a TSC/Quality/Sears riding lawn mower and let the "kids" mow the grass... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Bernie, I agree with John. Test it with the ags before you spend the money on the turfs. I have ags on my old Ferguson. I'll bet its heavier than your 3000DT, and the ags never leave a mark. This week I was forced to mow after a rain, and it left a couple of slight marks, but after an hour they were gone!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I was lucky because I got to try both on my L3000DT. I ordered it with turfs, but none in stock. So I took delivery with ags and the dealer would swap when the turfs came in. If the ground was dry, and I mean dry, the ags were not much of a problem. They were great in the dirt /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I almost cancelled the turfs. Then two days after it rained, I took her out. Oh boy, she left lots of indentations in the lawn. So I accepted the turfs, great on lawn. But I will not take the turfs in the dirt when its real wet, unless I want to spend the rest of the day power washing the dirt out of the tread. So I guess it all depends on your conditions and projects.

I have Ag tires on my L3010DT and a 72" rear finish mower. While I don't have a manicured "putting green" lawn, I haven't caused any damage, unless I forget to take it out of 4WD or if I try to mow when the ground is still wet after a rain. I also agree with John, test them on your lawn when its dry.

Thanks guys for the info, I think I will try it w/ags,My primary concern was that I might do a little mow jobs for other people.Another ?, 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel while mowing, I know some of these ?'s sound like I'm retarded, But really I'm not, lol

I always mow in 2WD unless I get in a ditch or something where 4WD is necessary to get the tractor to move.

wriken: Same here I mow with ag's, If it's after a rain I slip it into 4wd before I cross a soft spot. And I take my time on tight turn's. If it does mark the lawn it gone the next day.
