Has anyone ever put regular ag tread tires as fronts on a 2WD farm tractor? I bought a pair on eBay to use as ground driven rake tires, and the ad suggested that they could be used as tractor fronts to increase control. Any thoughts?

Thank you.

R-1 tread is typically mounted "backwards" when used on a non-powered axle or an axle that powers ground driven equipment.

Friend of mine did several years ago. Stayed on the tractor about less than a day, and then he put on the right tires. You are better off with used truck tires the r-1's. Tractor front ends slid, that is why you have right and left brakes. Ribbed front tires chew things up, and truck tires will chew things up just as bad it you let them slid. BRAKES will solve the problem.

So the ag treads didn't help with the sliding?

Ag tread (r-1) will not turn as well as a ribbed tire. As you turn some of the bars will line up with the direction of travel and tend to make the tire slide, they work on 4wd due to those tires are driven. The ribbed tires all of the ribs are always going in the direction of desired travel.

Thanks for the responses. I kinda figured it was too good to be true.
