Looking for a very aggressive tire for a BX 2660.. not the R1 but a deep lug mud type of tread.. what all is out there in a tire wheel combo.. or would Chains on the turf tires I have now a better choice? Wanting to bush hog some saplings in a swampy track of land..

I have a BX 2360 that I do a lot of work with, but bush hogging a swamp it won't do. I run turfs and add chains for pulling out firewood and working on a wet piece of wood road. Not sure what you call a swamp, but the BX doesn't have much ground clearance. Traction won't do much if you are high centered.

One note, if you are doing much offroad, get a set of skid plates such as those sold by BXPanded or you WILL eventually end up with a stick breaking your transmission cooling fan which will require that the engine be moved to replace ($$$$).

where do you get chains from? being in Fl not to many choices around here... I understand the limits of the lack of ground clearance but the turf tread suck after just one round in soft sticky mud..

Thanks about the skid plates, i've already lost a couple of blades on the cooling fan,, 99.8% of the time the belly mower is on and guard it but i know as soon as it comes off there will be a problem..

My BX2660 ends up being worked in my swampy lowlands at times ( ATV trail maintenance ) and I have the R1 type tires and it only takes a few spins in the mud and the lugs fillup (even though they pretty wide spaced lugs ) and then the tires lose all traction, I have come to the conclusion that whether I had chains or even more aggressive tires , it would not help much. I suspect it is because our tire diameter is so small on a BX . I guess that is one of the advantages of a B class versus BX.
I now only do swamp work in July when ground dry or in winter when low snow levels but still frost in ground. Otherwise I have had to use my bucket (with toothbar) to slowly curl my way back out of mud holes when feasible and hope the four wheel drive lock lever and bucket curls get me out.

ok so how much good do chains really do in the mud? If it's worth it then my next questions are what type do I get? 2 link or 4 link spacing, twisted links or V-bar?

sorry for more questions but I'm a Cajun transplanted to the sands of Florida and have Never seen tire chains... they will be used in the Louisiana mud by the way..

I also know this is not the very best set up but this will be used as a one time deal to undercut some scrappy old wet wood land..

I don't think you will get very far with the weight of a bush hog on a BX. Your only choice in a swampy like area is to have dually's as wiiiiide you can make it on both front and back and drive when the soil is the firmest. I am guessing that in florida swamp would be never. You will have a percentage of steering loss due to wide fronts, and you may end up sinking anyway since the BX is a low profile hieght.
You really dont want to have aggressive tires in swamp conditions - you want floatation and like I said only way is to double or triple the width of tire print.

I have R4's on mine. I mow with, playing the snow, use it in the woods, in a little mud, and use varoius implements. I am very happy with the overall performance on the R4's. Do you have a loader? If not you are going to need front weights to use the rotary cutter.
