Ags vs. Turfs

My question is, does using ag tires vs turf make that much of a difference for loader work? I'm finding that even in 4wd I'm slipping alot.

My main purpose for the tractor is mowing so I don't want to dig up the lawn with ags on the front, at this point I'd only be replacing the rears. Is that a problem?

Before spending any money on tires & wheels, check the air pressure in your turfs to make sure they aren't over-inflated.

Out of curiosity, why would you jump from R3/Turfs to R1/Ags without considering R4/Industrials? R4s (or similar) are commonly used for loader work on backhoes and skidsteers.

Would chains be an option?

How big is your tractor. This may be a determing factor on tire choice.

My little Kubota B7100 has turfs. When doing loader work or pulling work the tires do spin frequently. However; in my usage situation probably any tire will spin. Mine spin with chains too but they do help.

Also keep in mind a little slippage may prevent something else breaking from too much force.

But, as others have mentioned, if you are somewhat concerned about tearing up your lawn, I've found R4's to be a great comprimise. They pull MUCH harder than turfs, but they still don't do much damage to my lawn.

I have a 2210 and I had turfs on it originally, and I replaced the rears with Bar style tires. WOW>
It now does MORE in 2wd, than it did before in 4wd!
It made an enormous difference, and it really doesn't rip up the lawn unless you spin them. They do leave a dent in the grass if its soft though, so consider the skid-steer tires too.

That's my theory on tilling with my Bolens:
The Turfs spin some but I'd rather it do that than twist off an axle or tear up the tiller.

As far as I'm concerned this is a non issue with a Sub Cut and the smaller compact tractor.
Some folks are just to fussy about this.

It's a JD 2210. I had the HDAP tires on my JD x585 and found them to be a good biting tire but again I never used them with a loader just snowblowing.

The tire pressure is good, not too hard.

I have considered r4's but they're almost twice as much for my size(26x12.00-12) and I didn't know how much more traction they'd give. Don't want to spend the extra $$ if I'll end up having to buy the bar/ag tires later on (that's where the vast knowledge and expereince on this site comes into play!).

Anyone who can point me in the right direction for a good price on the r4's I'd appreciate it. I can get a set of bar tires for $116.
