I am looking for an inexpensive way to get into AC/DC tig welding. I do not want to spend red or blue money on a welder as I have several other hobbies. Can any one point me in the right direction between these two welder (AHP Tig 200x or Everlast PowerTig 185DV)?

The AHP seems to have more features with a significant price difference. Am I wasting time by considering the Everlast due to price and features? Like I said, I am a hobby welder with 3 boys that are very hard on their off road toys and other things.

My previous welding experience includes an 8 week welding program I did with Local 636 piperfitters. All of this was GMAW (Arc) for preparation to open root weld pipe with 6010 and 7018. I also have personal experience with a low dollar mig welder I have been using for the past 20 years for various projects.

Thanks for all the info

How do the warranties compare? Or buy used. If you can adjust Pulse Frequency, Down Slope and Hz. You will get by nicely for features. You may not even need them. Depends what you want to achieve.

If you could find a good deal on a used Miller Dynasty 300. I'm just a hobby welder myself, so all I have to do is turn the Dynasty on. And I get welds like this.

That's getting really old and it's neither funny nor cute at this point. It's about equal to, 'I lost all my guns in a boating accident."

I have an Everlast TIG welder and a PA 300 and can say nothing negative about them. They make/build a quality piece of equipment for the money spent.
Mark on here can be reached via PM and can give you a quote.
I can not comment on AHP other than to say i have seen others make negative comments about them however you can always find negative comments about everything so I can not verify anything I have heard. I can say I have enjoyed my Everlast Welding equipment and for the money they cost they have given me good quality value.

Drop a PM to "Mark @ Everlast" You maybe surprised at the price he can give you.

I've had a AHP Alpha Tig 200x for a few months now and have had no issues and am very pleased with it. When I was looking I couldn't find anything close for the price or quality. I don't weld for business, just home and hobby, so it fits my need well.

I have a Maxstar 200 (Dynasty minus the AC). Love it, but it's was expensive when I got it used. If I had it to do over I'd consider the Everlast equivalent to a Dynasty. Would have been the same or cheaper to get an new Everlast AC/DC inverter machine compared to my used DC only Maxstar.

My Everlast plasma cutter has done me well.
