Aint this place AWESOME?

Was PM'ing with RAT today, and looking through my tractor paperwork. I got my Kubota B8200hst 6/27/98. I joined this site right around that time. RAT, and a few others were around then too. I think back then membership was measured in 10's and low hundreds, unlike the big community we have now.

It was a totally different place then, for Kubota's. Since then, it has expanded to all tractors, and additional "topics.

Muhammad and crew have done an AWESOME job, making a forum where we can hang out, discuss important topics, and some just plain fun ones too.

TBN sure has been helpful. How else would I have ever ended up with a HST if it wasn't for MChalkey. To me HST was a new fangled yuppie deal for lazy bums that couldn't tell a wet clutch from a dry clutch. Little did I know that it actually works pretty darn well. It may not be the end all and be all, but it's a consideration for some. It's been good chatting with you RobertN from Shingle Springs.

It has sure changed a lot since the Kubota tractor board. Most ways have been for the better. Remember when you had to wait until tomorrow for some of your questions to be answered? That has been a long time......

As a relative newcomer here, it is apparant that some of the newer members would never accept waiting a whole day for an answer. They expect their answer in an hour or less or get real excited if they do not hear back the same day. And I thought I was inpatient.

Rat, as for HST, I had an opportunity to pull one of my favorite stunts when I was in Florida doing volunteer hurricane relief work last October: A guy who was helping on one of the jobs was telling me he was amazed at how much the EF-500 would do, then he asked me what kind of transmission it had, and when I told him "hydrostatic", he said "Bummer, don't you wish it had a gear transmission." When I told him I wouldn't have bought it if it had, he started talking about how much power loss there is with hydrostatics, etc. etc. So I asked him to watch as I moved the EarthForce over to the stump of a huge tree we'd just cut up and, after digging 4 holes with the tires, I stopped and said "Now, tell me - what would I do with more power, dig holes with the tires faster?." After that, with the propaganda he'd been fed dispensed with, we had a meaningful discussion about the relative merits and disadvantages of one technology vs. the other. Like the old farmer said about whacking the mule with the 2x4: "He'll respond to gentle talk just fine - ya just gotta get his attention first." /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mark, I remember you posting that once before when you had you Kubota. With your hoe hanging on the back and loader on, you could still manage to spin the tires when into a immovable object. I suspect that the EF-500 with the Michelins spinning, you are basically putting a system to the ultimate test. In a scenario like that, you can't ask for anything more.

I assume you have replaced the stock tires with Michelins or recall you mentioning it.
