I have two different npt 1/4 inch fittings for my air compressor. But they don't seem to be interchangeable. The one with a thicker collar needs to be forced a little more. What is the different name of these two fittings? Since I am in quarantine, I need to buy them online. 20200427_140432.jpg

Qual;ity Control?

I have never seen fittings that similar, if they are supposed to be different. What do YOU think they are?

I know for a fact there are a few different types of air hose fittings, and you have to buy the matching one's to fit. apparently, there's no standard for some odd reason!.. BTW, forcing it in is not good!. look here for a few types. McMaster-Carr

The one on the right is an I/M fitting which is the most universal. Not sure what the other one is

Just buy new I/M fittings and toss the other style. Fittings are cheap

Edit: I/M stands for Industrial/M. It’s Milton industries “Industrial” fitting and is the most commonly used in the USA

I have hundreds of "M" fittings that I decommisioned. I never saw different styles or had issues with connection. BUT, I changed to "A" I think. Don't know, got them all out of one Shut Down Manufacturing facility and it's the one all the Industry around here uses. I switched, because I much preffered the one handed connect feature.

You can get the M style one handed also .........

I hear you there Timberxx. I have five different "tools" for my compressor. Air nozzles, tire chucks, etc. I took the fitting that fit best into Spokane to the House of Hose. They specialize in all things - air compressor. They matched with four new fittings. Success.........

No doubt - this is one area where there is no such thing as standardization. All five of my tools had a different end connector fitting.
