Air filters

I know there is a wide quality gaps in oil filters.
But i have seen little discussion on paper air filters.

I just started looking for replacement and find they are rather Expensive and prices varies.

Are there good and poor brands? What is recommended?

Are inner filters necessary?

And precleaners? Some machines have them most don't?

precleaners are good in dusty environments.

If a machine is made for an inner and an outter.. I run both.

In many cases you change the outter more often than the inner. the inner may be finer with a sock mesh over it too..

In times of less cash than needed I have used a 'cheaper' outter, but a good/oem inner.. etc.

Realistically, I don't have any hard data but I don't believe that their are bad airfilters out there with name brands. There is a big variation in price however. Look around on ebay, Amazon , Filter1, etc and you can find some fair pricing. I bought a coupe of air filters for our Ford 4610 and most place had them for $35-$40 a pop and I found some for $17.50 each on Amazon. Can't remember the brand.
Yes inner filters are necessary or they wouldn't be there! They get the really fine stuff that makes it through the outer filter.

I have a precleaner on the 4610 and that saves a lot of airfilter changes. I'd like to find one for my NH TD95D. They are not terribly expensive (~$50) for something with a 201 cu in engine, and they generally slip right on the external intake pipe. The NH has a different induction system for the air so it might be a little more expensive, if indeed thay make one for it.

Order Parts has a rather large precleaner for 21.00
I am thinking its a good investment even if its plastic. Ebays seem smaller and higher and mostly plastic.

Never heard of Outter's or the United -something- brand that was in this one, and no inner.

Most of what i have found is 75-80 on ebay( both), no brands. some inners are felt, some paper and one is a pretty blue felt. Cheapest is paper frams at 60.00.

Locally I found wix's at 85.00 at Oreilly but have to order it, others go up over 100.00 and i didnt ask the brand.
Bet a K&N would be outragious.

I wondered if they had a second line or?
Depending on shipping there are some decent looking prices on wix.

I'd recomend you get the precleaner with the see through bowl. They are a bit more expensive but you can see when to clean them and then they just empty out after you take off the top. Those cheap plastic pipes don't really have a precleaner in them. It's my understanding that they are just a capped piece of pipe.

Have you tried Filter1 (www.filter1.com) ? I got some good deals on Wix filters there.

I hadnt. The first number i checked was 4.00 higher But with free shipping over 50.00.
If i dont have to buy case lots I can make a 50.00 order easly.

Some on ebay say metal base some dont?
This is a 4x10 with clear bowl. It might be worth asking them about.
I got a decent steering wheel and boots for the shifter, wish i had bought 3 sets.
