I have a nice 100' air hose. I would like to make it into two 50' sections. So should i just use it as is or chop it?? If i decide to chop it is there any way i can get the crimped fitings installed?? I don't like the hose clamps because they are just a hassle. They leak and not trust worthy.. What would you do???

snapper, I have a local rubber/hydraulic hose company in my town and they can do anything I want with an air hose including crimping new fittings on. I would just keep the 100' section and go out and buy a couple of new 50' sections of hose. If you don't need top quality you can pick up standard hose dirt cheap from places like Sam's Club. You will spend more time and money trying to get that 100' made into two 50' hoses than you would just going out and buying the 50'ers. By the way I always buy 3/8" inside diameter hoses but if 1/4" works for you then that is even cheaper.

I agree with Spencer. I'll bet you have a shop nearby that could do the crimp on fittings, but I wouldn't; I'd just use it as is. I always put quick couplers on everything, so I didn't have a 100' hose. Instead I had three 50' hoses (3/8" size), one 15' hose (1/4" size), and two of the 10' coil memory hoses (1/4" size). Very rarely did I need more than two hoses together and usually just one of them.

I would just use the hose clamps, we have over 75 air line drops at work with the hose clamps and they never leak . put a quick disconnect on each end and if you need 100' for something you can just connect it together. my 2 cents.

well i decided i would use the air hose more if it was in half, so i cut it i n half. Put the new ends on the compressor end and taped it good so it won't catch.. I got this hose at a similiar place to harbor freight. It is a decent rubber that rolls nicely. The 100' was five dollars more than the 50', so i got the better deal.. I think it will work just fine with these new ends.. thanks for the advice

Don't buy the cheap PVC hose that Sam's sells. I bought two, the first time I used one it got close to my drop light and melted a hole in it /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.

Just goes to show, you don't get what ya don't pay for /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cigarette butts burn holes in 'em easily, also. With me there are usually one or two butts laying around so those hoses don't last long. They also seem to remain flexible until they get cold or freeze the first time and then they become a stiff PITA to work with forever after that. I stick with the red rubber hoses when I can find them.

When we make air & water hoses for tooling (hundreds of lines on a single tool) we use rings that have a small section on each side to use end nippers to squeeze.
Almost 100% seal every time and very little to catch on.
Grainger has them 'Oetiker brand'.
Only trouble is they sell by 100pcs.
Other places may sell by the pc.
