Is your presure switch in an easy place to listen for it to cycle? If so first confirm it does not cycle when you are not using water. Turn the water on and watch when the pump comes on and off. Typical 30psi-on and 55psi-off. This time, turn on the water so you can get the psi down close to point where the pump will turn on. Let it set for ten min. This will determine if you have a leak any place.

Second, check your tank blader presure. Mine is at 32 psi. Well pumps need the air blader because water is not compressable. Low blader pressure will cause quick on-off pump cycles. Good presure will have long cycles.

Last, are running it dry? Why is the pump so far off the bottom? Around here, 20-30' off the bottom is normal.

Yesterday I finally had a whole water treatment system put in because I had "air " in the lines. Turned out to be a gas, methane infact. I know because it was flamable. It would come and go, new construction we moved in mid feb and got bad air in the lines 4 times or so, lasting a week to two. I can provide a ton more info if needed.

Looks like maybe you have a solution to high heating bills. Find a way to capture the methane and store it for use during the cold NY Winter.

Methane is quite common in water wells in some areas and very often mistaken for " air "

Quite a few by hand well diggers died in Michigan back in the old days from pockets of natural gas that were opened while digging.

I don't think it is methane tha well is 20 years old and no one else around has ever had or heard of the problem. the pump is so far off the bottom because there is at least 100 feet of water on top of it. I have had the water tested and everything came back 0. open to other suggestions.

What is the timeframe that the air takes to build up in the lines? Is it overnight? Couple hours? etc?

How do you know that the well isn't running dry? Have you done a flow test and ran it solid for a while?

Do you have a backflow prevention device plumbed after the pressure tank? Maybe it is sticking and a slow leak or running faucet/ toilet isn't enough to open it up so it makes a void? (not likely but just a guess).

Also, it could be a faulty pressure switch. I have seen that when the pressure switch is defective it wont kick in in time and in a presssure tank with a bladder you get just air or nothing. Does it sound like air or is there just an absence of water?
