I have a Milton 1115 regulator that howls/whistles when using air tools. It's 3 years old and started doing this about 3 months ago. It's very loud, very annoying, and resonates through the piping. I took it apart, it's clean and no broken parts. Milton lists non-existent service kits. Any recommendations on regulators?

Without the repair kit it sounds like a replacement of the regulator.
I've used regulators from Harbor Freight and they've been trouble free until I plumbed one wrong and ran 100 psi air the wrong way thru it many times before it failed.

After giving some thought to how this regulator functions, I decided to shim the valve/piston spring. I massaged a stainless washer to fit inside the housing, under the spring, and that seems to have worked, for now. I used a die grinder for about a hour last night and no howling or whistling. Meanwhile, the search for a new regulator continues.

I noticed these same regulators are sold by Home Depot with free shipping. Do you have a filter ahead of your regulator? The Milton manual says "The secret to this longevity is clean air. Always, without exception, precede your regulator with a Micro-Filter and install it as close as you can get it."

The regulator on my shop air system does it but works fine otherwise. I didn't have time to fix it for a few weeks and eventually stopped noticing it.... Current plan is keep ignoring it until the regulator eventually stops working

I have a Milton micro-filter before and attached to the regulator.
