Greetings, TripleR,

(And the following is also addressed to any and all who'd care to contribute their opinions, experiences, etc...).

I have a question about your Grammar air ride seat.
I may be moving into the L's (perhaps an L3800-class machine), because all my searching for a low-hour B2630 has met with with no success. I ask about the seat due to having some issues with my back, at present).

So I saw you mention your air ride seat, in another thread. I didn't want to hijack it, so I started this one, but I do provide a link to the thread your (partial) quote came out of, just...as a courtesy, I guess. :)

*snip* I bought a Grammar air ride seat for my 5740 as I don't much care for the OEM seat. *snip*

(Old Thread--no need to read for this thread.)
L5740 (interim tier 4) or L6060 (tier 4)

As you know, the B2630 has the spring-suspended seat, like the B3030's, apparently with a simple knob, to adjust spring pre-load--only. I tried one a couple years ago, but didn't even notice the seat--rookie move. While I suspect that they are better than nothing, I'm sure they are no match for an air ride. (I don't think there's any damping on the B2630/B3030 seat--just spring tension--is that correct?).

So...I don't expect you to know the answers to all of these questions, nor to write a bunch. (And I hope the numbered questions make for some easy "Yes/No"/or easy answers). But maybe between you and others, I can get the guidance I need: :D

1. How much travel does your Grammer have? (I saw one with 3.1" in this forum)

2. Would you mind my asking what your total parts outlay is? (The one with 3.1" was $1,100.+)

3. Are permanent mods required?

4. If so, are the permanent mods drilling and bolting, or cutting and welding? (Both, right? LOL)

5. Is the OEM seat in your GL5740 the same, simply-spring seat as in the B2630/B3030?

6. Whatever the OEM seat's configuration, what did you dislike about it? Would it retrofit into, say, an L3800?

7. I know the GL5740 is cabbed. Does anyone know of any head-clearance issues with using an air ride in an open-station machine? (I'm 5'10"). I will need to have a foldable ROPS.

8. Is there a "best" model in the Grammar line? Which best met your needs?

Thanks and sorry for the barrage of questions. If you didn't know all you do, I'd be asking someone who did.

1. How much travel does your Grammer have? (I saw one with 3.1" in this forum)

Sad to say, mine is still sitting in my garage awaiting a time I can park it for a while as I need to do some other things to it and I'm still using i pretty often.

2. Would you mind my asking what your total parts outlay is? (The one with 3.1" was $1,100.+)

My total cost with arm rests, extended back and manual box was $1100.

3. Are permanent mods required?

Yes, on the system I am using, not so much on another to which I will post a link, you will find the one I am using here:
Kubota GL5740 with Custom Installed Grammer Seat..wmv - YouTube

4. If so, are the permanent mods drilling and bolting, or cutting and welding? (Both, right? LOL)

See above.

5. Is the OEM seat in your GL5740 the same, simply-spring seat as in the B2630/B3030?

Yes, just dual springs, Paul has a picture in his video.

6. Whatever the OEM seat's configuration, what did you dislike about it? Would it retrofit into, say, an L3800?

First part, bottoming out hurts my back, second, I honestly have no idea, everything I know I learned from 4shorts, mrmetalweld57 and DDT. Here is an approach different than mine and may work better for you: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/customization/192419-my-new-kubota-air-ride.html

7. I know the GL5740 is cabbed. Does anyone know of any head-clearance issues with using an air ride in an open-station machine? (I'm 5'10"). I will need to have a foldable ROPS.

8. Is there a "best" model in the Grammar line? Which best met your needs?

I have no idea, but there are several models, I got mine here:
Grammer MSG 93 - 721

Thanks and sorry for the barrage of questions. If you didn't know all you do, I'd be asking someone who did.

I wish I could be of more help.

TripleR,

On the contrary, you've been of tremendous help. :)

The links you provided, and your own experiences, will definitely help me get where I need to be.

Much appreciated, my friend.
