in between now
Now the govt. wants hundreds of thousands of cars taken off
the road immediately.
We have a lot of Southern TBN members; if any of you have older Hondas or Acuras, mostly 2001 to 2003 model years,
this is really important info for you. Your air bags are truly bad news:

Federal safety regulators warned owners of more than 300,000 Hondas and Acuras that they should not drive their cars until their Takata airbags are replaced.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said new tests show these airbags have a much higher risk of exploding and killing a driver or passenger. These airbags have a 50% chance of exploding when they are deployed in an accident, according to the agency. Other Takata airbags have less than a 1% chance of exploding.

"The risk posed by the airbag inflators in these vehicles is grave, and it is critical they be repaired now to avoid more deaths and serious injuries," said the agency's statement.

Cars located in humid regions of the country such as Texas, Florida and the Gulf Coast are at particular risk.

There have been 10 U.S. deaths tied to exploding Takata airbags. Eight of them were in cars that had this specific airbag.

This group of cars is a small subset of cars with Takata airbags that have been already recalled. Nearly 70 million airbags in U.S. cars alone have been or will be recalled, according to the agency. It will take until 2019 to replace these airbags because not all of the replacement parts are immediately available.

But NHTSA said Honda (HMC) has the replacement parts to fix all of the 300,000 high-risk cars covered by this alert.

The models identified by NHTSA include: 2001-2002 Honda Civic, 2001-2002 Honda Accord, 2002-2003 Acura TL, 2002 Honda CR-V, 2002 Honda Odyssey, 2003 Acura CL, 2003 Honda Pilot.

Well crap, that doesn't sound very good. Something that is supposed to help save your life, winds up killing you.

worse is this age and size cars are used by starter drivers, perhaps your grandchildren's first car...and others who can't afford a new car. So they buy this car for five grand on a used car lot, no disclaimers or recalls, ownership info doesn't catch up with them for a year, and boom, shrapnel where there is supposed to be safety.
Not good at all.
Worse, I might even have an airbag in my one year old Ram truck that was installed knowing that it had to be yanked out in a future recall. Not as dangerous, but knowingly installing questionable safety parts is going to get Ram and others hung out to dry in a mva fatality.

Any time you take your car to the Dealer they are suppose to check safety recalls... it they don't it is a huge problem for the Dealer.

Now my car is subject to the recall and every attempt to schedule was met with we don't have that airbag yet... I stopped calling this year.

I could make a big deal about it and probably should... it is just I don't care for the Dealership since it changed ownership...

We have a 2010 CRV and when my wife read the story on the news site, she called the Honda dealer and we are the queue to have the airbag replaced but it may be August or September when they get enough replacements in.
We do tow the CRV behind our motorhome and have a trip planned in late August..... But we'll see.

Luckily this is a third vehicle so we can let it sit and not use it much. I feel for the families who have to use their car daily and have to drive in fear.

My 05 pilot is on the list, my daily work vehicle.

I thought this recall was related to airbag container rust. So if you live in a dryer climate and rust is less of an issue, then maybe its less of an immediate problem. Of course if you don't have an accident which ignites the bags, then its not a problem either. We got ours replaced after becoming very tired of Honda leaving us harsh and overly assertive messages..

Almost seems like an incentive to delay because as time marches there are less vehicles due to attrition.

Still can't pin down a date and Mom's Toyota was just added to the list.

A few have demanded loaners and one took her loaner on a 3,000 mile trip stating it was impossible not to have someone in the front seat as the entire family was going on the trip.

A friend of mine works at a Ford dealership, there's a notice on Fords as well, naturally, they don't have the bags to replace them.
What are you suppose to do?
