Kubota L-39
I am looking for a Flail mower for my L-39 Kubota down in Costa Rica. I talked to a dealer down here in San Jose who sells an Italian Brand called Celli. He told me he has an Alamo AT-60 that has never been used and he thinks it is about 10yrs old. He asking $2000 with no warranty. This sounds like a great deal at todays prices. My question is what would this unit cost 10yrs ago and other than the belts are probably dry rotted should there be any other concerns that I may run into. I hope to drive over there tomorrow and look at the machine. Thanks

there are 3 bearing 1 at each end of the cutter shaft and 1 on the top belt drive shaft, make sure there not frozen, pump new grease in all three, there are also 2 grease fittings on the bottom drum roller, grease them also. $2k seems high for a 5 foot, 10 yrs ago new alamo flails were between 5k to 8k depending on size and if they are heavy duty, you can order parts online from
Flail-Master - Mower Replacement Parts, Commercial Riding Mower Parts, Rotary Cutter Parts, Blade grinders, Trimmer Line, Mowing Accessories - Flail Master - Flailmaster - and MONTAGE ENTERPRISES - MOTT FLAIL MOWER PARTS & BLADES, ALAMO FLAIL MOWER PARTS & BLADES i use montage little cheaper. any questions let me know Dennis.

Thanks Dennis. Anything I buy from the states I will cost me about 20% of the value to get it in this country. I would have figured based on what the heavy duty models cost now that maybe his cost 10yrs ago was probably around $2000-$3000. I am going to check it out tomorrow and bring cash to see if I can better the deal. Thanks again

I bought and picked my new 10yr old Alamo Flail mower yesterday. Other than some rust, faded paint and cob webs I believe a good deal finally came my way. By the time I got it to my land and attached it to tractor and lubed eveything it was getting dark, so I cut about 20ft to make sure everything was moving and put it away until Sunday.

good luck, youll love it, check the blade to see what type they are and they are not miss matched. there are different types, refer to montage web site on blades

The unit has Y blades. I will see how these work on the terrain here but base on info I have read on this site I will probably switch to the hammers. The unit did not have skids on it. Should I get some are just use my hydraulics to keep the leading edges off the ground. Thanks

y blades are good they are coarse cut, they are gauged by thickness and length of cutting edge, finished blades are long t blades 4" to 5"( not good for stuff higher then 6" tangles) put the skid plates on, when you set the roller height for mininum cut height, you float the flail so it follows the terrain.
I dont think you can put hammer blades on an alamo, the blades you have will cut fine.
