Does anyone have any experience using alfalfa to increase the production of dairy animals? I've recently started feeding my dairy goats hay that is 1/3 timothy, 1/3 clover and 1/3 alfalfa. It seems to be increasing milk production, but I haven't been using it long enough to really calculate it, as weather variables also effect milk production.

Yes, that will work, but be VERY cautious. Alfalfa can cause rumen problems if introduced to quickly. Treat it like silage or the first flush of spring grass. If you start to see ANY signs of bloat or diarea stop. Wait a week and try to re-introduce it again, but at a slower rate. My goats act like it is crack cocaine. Good luck. Mike
