An aluminum body can make a lot more sense than an aluminum trailer does. For example, I belive that PA is still at 17,000 lbs before you need DOT numbers?

Here in Kentucky, the magic number is 10,000 lbs. When I moved here, I was originally going to go commercial. I quickly decided to nix that and went with farm plates.

You don't need a DOT # at all in PA as long as you conduct business within the state, no matter how big the truck is. I have no DOT# on my 33,000 lb dumptruck and no one has said boo to me about it.

looks nice, except for the price lol

Are deckovers any more unstable towing than a conventional fendered trailer with a tractor strapped down since they sit almost a foot higher in the air or more to clear the wheels?

Not only are deckovers higher they usually have the wheels set in near the frame rails. I suppose the wheel set in is to avoid having to build a subframe to support the springs/axles out where they ought to be, IMO. Just concerns me to have a higher COG then have a narrow wheel spread.....

IMHO, I would not let load stability sway my decision between a deck over and an low narrow deck except for hauling something hard to load like a forklift. Have you ever noticed a load of tractors or whatever being hauled on a normal flatbed tractor trailer not to mention coils or giant spools of wire.

Adjust your speed a bit and buy the trailer that most fits your needs.
