Hey all. Long time observer, first time poster.
Anyways, I've purchased a little Ford 1900 in the past year. It's a 4wd. I dont know the history of it but, it seems to run fine and is in fairly descent shape. I dont have an owner's manual. Ive changed the oil already. Went with Schaeffer's 7000 10w-30, and a Wix oil filter. Im planning on changing the rest of the fluids, and want to know what kinds I need. Planning on changing out everything. Front diffy, power-steering, and transmission? Is the hydraulics part of the rear drive? Im fairly new to this, but want to do it right and would like some "expert" opinions. Thanks guys!
:D

Tranny and rear drive/hydrolics are using the same fluid, and changing it can be a problem since the tranny and drain plugs drain maybe 1/3 of the total fluid. When I first got my tractor I called a service place that suggested I purchase some cheap fluid, drain and change what I could, and do it again. In all honesty, I would change what I could with the hydrolics once and let it go for now because let's face it, with an older tractor it won't be long until you have a hydrolic leak from a split hose etc, and that is the best way to change most of the fluid .

I had a 1900 2WD and loved it. We had a woods 750 backhoe--3 pt hitch--that I used with it and it was a real handy and compact unit.
One thing you don't know is the injector pump needs oil added when you change the oil.
It's an 11/16 size stubby bolt on top of the pump and close to where the lines leave it.
You remove the stubby bolt, taking care not to lose the copper washer, and figure out how to get 5 ?? ounces of engine oil in the hole.
I used to make a long and sharply tapered funnel out of some freezer paper from my wife. Tape held it together while I poured the oil in.
Haven't looked yet but I might have a parts manual for the 1900.

When you change the hydraulic oil there is a strainer on the side that you need to remove and clean. Get a new gasket.
Also, some of the 1900's has a hydraulic filter and some didn't.

Good luck and welcome to a pretty nice group of guys here.

Thanks for the info. Do I need to drain oil out of the injector pump first? Ive already did an oil change about a month ago on the crankcase. I assume this is seperate form it. Thanks

Yeah, hit both of those filters if you have em'. This will drain all the oil you can get out of it for now. While you're at it, replace the fuel and air filters if you haven't done so already. Make sure you're hour meter works so you know when to do this again, and grease that puppy down. Then you'll be ready to put some seat-time in.

Nope, Just remove that stubby 11/16" "bolt" and add approximately 5 oz of engine oil.
I recall it as an every 100 hour,or oil change, requirement.
Don't lose the copper gasket and if you do, it's metric. It's easy to miss since it rides down into a machined grove and the faint color is the only indicator.

Do you have a hydraulic filter? Paper or oil bath air cleaner?
These are ways to determine if you have an early or late model tractor.
Mine was early.

When you get around to cleaning the hyd system oil strainer, I think? you might also need an "O" ring.
Cleaning is for some lazy day when you can take your time.
Also, that cover has been on a while and isn't going to come off easy just for the heck of it.

When I bought my 1900 it had the injectors removed a couple times for "cleaning" by the prior owner. He said they plugged.
Unsure of this, I made sure all my fuel was filtered and guys on this board convinced me to add "Stanadyne" diesel treatment to my fuel.
Since I have done those things I have never, with six tractors and lots of hours, had any fuel or injector problem.

Good advice above on changing all those filters and flush radiator too.

The 1900 was a nice little "sleeper" tractor since it had a larger engine than comperable models.

the only Schaeffer's 7000 10w-30 I can find on the net is a SM rated oil. "S"ervice rated oils are not suitable for diesel engines that need "C"ommercial rated oils.

what does your jug say.
