I have a girette hiback pruning machine. It was built around 1977. Basically it is a three wheeled man-lift. Recently I rebuilt the main lift ram, do to the fact that it had started dropping while using. The rebuilt seems to have fixed that problem but now while trying to lower man basket it drops at a hi rate. You can stop it by releasing the control lever. ( that is if you are quick enough). Their is several diff adjustments that can be made, But I have yet to find the correct combination. I am hoping to find someone that knows were a manual can be purchased or at least find some one with specific knowledge of this machine that could direct me in the right direction. Thank you all very much.

Can you not install a needle valve in the work port and adjust the rate of fall.

Is your valve matched to the pump flow.

I may have to do that, but was hoping to keep all original since has worked great for so many years. It was passed on to me from my father along with the family farm. I can remember watching him out there on it at 70 plus years old and wondering how he did it. (farming) Anyway thank you got to get back to work

Is it possible there was a little restrictor washer in the hose to that cyl that got lost? Maybe the cyl needs to be big for lifting but because its such a large volume drops too fast initially at retract. Or as JJ says put an adjustable restrictor in the line. Sounds like a cool rig. I could use one for, oh, two hours a year in my little home orchard.

Thank you all for your time, After reading your suggestions I found a orvice in one of the 90 degree adapters and of course i had it on the wrong line. Didn't even notice because the two adapters used on that cylinder look identical to each other on the outside. Thank you again
