I'm looking at some ads for D17 Allis tractors. I used to operate one, but now I see Series III or IV.

What does the series # indicate?

THANKS.

I know that the later D17 series IV was the first ones to have a factory 3PT. Other then that I guess it just denotes refinements. Steve

Check out www.allischalmers.com in the discussion forum they will tell you everything that you ever would want to know about AC tractors.
The last D-17's were the series IV in 1966 and 67. They had modern live hydraulics (high volume - low pressure) Creme wheels and grill, and persian orange #2 paint, wide decal stripe, headlights mounted on the rear fenders, 12 volt neg ground system, black and white cushioned seat, 3pt or snap coupler rear hitch options.
Earlier D-series tractors had persian orange #1 paint which isn't as bright, steel pan seat, headlight mounted up front, high pressure low volume hydraulics, 6 volt positive ground electrical, snap coupler hitch.
I'll attach a picture of my series 1 D17.
