We're updating our neighborhood directory. No one else has done it since I had to give up the secretary/treasurer job in 2013. We have it almost done.

One thing that I am putting together is an email list in a text file to go into "to", "cc", or "bcc" areas of an email in case of an emergency in our area.

Wondering what the limits are to the email list. First, wondering how many emails are allowed before it gets dumped as "spam" or such by most mail systems.

Next, what are the limits to the email identifier. For example, most emails can have firstname, lastname (emaildescript@emailhandler.com), with each separated by a semicolon.

In my directory on Excel, I have access to their complete names or last name only in that firstname, lastname area. Complete names would be best if allowed because last names have dups or are the spouse of the email holder. Their complete names could be something like Ailene Snodgrass & Joe Smoo.

I cannot figure the terminology to do a Google-like search on this. Hoping some one of you know.

When I was in I.T. we had massive email lists full of personal contacts so that we could mass email employees at their personal addresses if there was a need (fire, flood, active shooter, etc...). We had about 500 people on it. Only put it in BCC, as we were not in the business of sharing personal contacts with others. Never had a problem.

How many people are in your neighborhood?

Is email the best way to contact people in the event of an emergency? I try to check mine once a day, but rarely more often than that. Sometimes a couple days go by without checking, especially on weekends.

As far as how many CC's before it's considered spam, I think that depends on your mail provider. I use outlook.com, and there seems to be no pattern as to what goes into the spam folder and what doesn't. 30-35 seems to work fine for the most part.

Being in an IT position for a marketing company I can help a bit.

Usually, it is not the number of people that you send a single email to, cc, bcc, getting blocked by email systems is usually based on how many emails you send over a specific length of time. Also, most that get black listed as spammers sent the same email many times in order to send the email "To" each person rather than having one email CC'd to multiple recipients. If you're sending a single email to 500 people and only doing infrequently I would not be concerned.

Outlook has a limit of 100 recipients per email and a limit of 10,000 recipients a day. Other systems might have different limits but are likely near these numbers. You would need to search for something like --- maximium email recipients --- and add whatever email service you are using.

As stated by someone else, you should use the BCC field rather than CC. You should send the email to yourself with a BCC to the other recipients. This will prevent sharing your email list with everyone else on the list.

We've about 110 to maybe 120 houses but with 2 emails at some addresses. Probably will end up with about 150 emails.

Think emails are a lot quicker than phone unless we organize several phone chains.

That 100 limit is Outlook is good to know, as that is what my wife and I use.

We wouldn't worry about people not seeing the email addys because we'll probably be sending the full list to everyone anyway.

Never heard of the Outlook client having a recipient limit. I think that is something you can verify with Google.

If you have Word you can use a feature called mailing lists. I would convert that Excel to Word and use that feature. It will give you template options and allow you to control per recipient emails tailored to groups or individuals.
Set up is pretty straight forward. And the document itself is considered mail ready or enabled.
