Aloha, I just moved here a year ago, love it here - the weather, the natural beauty, lots to do, most of the people (we've got our share of trash folks with no respect for the land or others, but the majority are great). I grew up in Missouri, had 35 acres near Joplin - raised a few cattle, had an 8N Ford that I kept the pastures and ground around two ponds mowed. Built a few implements with a stick welder, kept things maintained.
I'm in the process of buying an 8.6 acre property on the Hamakua Coast here - a beautiful area with vast ocean views, good sunshine, temperatures stay in the 60s to the 80s mostly and lots of rain (150+ inches/year). But this is the tropics, so that much rain isn't as wet as it would be back in Missouri, where we'd be floating away. The soil is good, drains very well.
Living down at the south end of the island now. We've got lots of feral pigs here (living on a macadamia nut farm now) - two are in the freezer and are very delicious. Got pigs running rampant on the new property - going to put a lot of them in the freezer - sharing with all the neighbors and friends (come visit and I'll give you some!)
Hope to get some good info on tractors here, and hopefully I can help others too.
