alternate air filter for Kioti engine

From my understanding an air filter for the Kioti 41HP engine cost about $55. This seems a bit high for something that cost about $3 to make. A friend of mine buys a car filter from auto parts store for his Yanmar. Has anyone found a similar air filter for Kioti engine at an auto parts store? And does anyone have any objection to use a car air filter if you can find one that matches pretty close? I know I will be replacing one or two every year due to all the dust and sage grass on my property.

Has anyone found a cheaper Kioti air filter online vs. at the dearship?

you might post this in the kioti forum.....also, on a diesel in general i would never consider shopping for alternatives unless the after market filter states comparability with your model. with diesels, it's all about filtration.

You obviously didnt read your owners manual. The difference between tractor air filters and cars is that the tractors are specifically made to be cleaned by lightly tapping on a tire to remove the dusts build up, dump the precleaner dust cup and re-install. You can also blow them out with compressed air after tapping out the majority of dust, but just tapping out all the dirt and seeds is generally good enough to reinstall if you are not where you can blow them out. Read your owners manual for complete description on this. If you dont damage the filter when cleaning it, they are good for several years. You dont replace them when they get dirty, and they do need to be cleaned daily when in dusty or weedy conditions. Many of the tractors will have a restriction indicator (available for installation at NAPA if your tractor doesnt have one) green is good, when it needs cleaning, it will trip to red. Reset it after cleaning.

there usually are 2 air filters, outer (serviceable) & inner that you leave intact as a backup in case outer fails. compressed air is okay but can pose the risk of damaging the paper element if focused too directly, etc. i like to clean from inside out.
i like to use my 2 cycle leaf blower.... remove the outer flange, & the blower tube fits nicely inside the outer filter diameter (on mine) this puts high volume but low pressure to the job. works great for your needs.
when you visually start to see discoloration on the inside (intake side) of the outer filter, maybe time to change. at least my take but don't sub. make shift air filters, the lifeblood of a diesel!!!!!

Not sure about Kioti but Kubota recommends their outer air filter element can be washed out up to six times before replacing.I have washed mine several times in warm soapy water and was surprised at how much dirt came out of it.I have tried blowing it out but that doesn't get near as much dirt out.The only drawback to washing is waiting for it to dry before it can be used again.

Yes, To washing, and I don't think mine is the original kubota filter,,as it does not have a number or lable on it anywhere? I use K-N on my auto engines...

Try NAPA, they have never failed my on all types of filters. I buy my Kubota air filter from them and it is considerably less. Ask for their Fleet, Farm/Ranch or Military (as you qualify) discount and save even more.
