I would not buy a new one. Take it to a local rebuilder.

new ones are pricey....$370. I took the alternator apart and found that the ball bearing is shot. i took that off and then put the alternator back together and mounted it back on the tractor without the bearing. seems like i could use the tractor now. not sure how long without the bearing.
i'll look around for a place to get the alternator rebuilt on tuesday after the holiday weekend.

If you run it without a bearing, you won't be getting it rebuilt. You'll be buying a new one!
